  2. AS if life weren't complicated enough... on More on the Hague Convention · · Score: 1

This will never go through. This law would break the boundries of what makes the US different from other countries. What if International laws went astray? This treaty would put us at the mercy of other countries problems. And, once, again, bring us down to the "level" of those countries.

One of the reasons I say this wouldn't go through is because there would be too much confliction with the interpretation of the constitution and our rights by different groups.

The US does not understand the direction that we're taking steps in here. We are, in other words, letting OTHER countries laws *overrule* the laws in our country that we're once made for (hopefully) a good reason.

Anyway, enough talking...i'll shut up now...

  3. Do not be afraid!! on Tips for Teaching Seniors About the Internet? · · Score: 1
The main thing holding seniors back is what i think is fear. The're afraid to just play around with things, and learn them that way. They have over the years became more and more closed minded and afraid, making it hard for them to learn much anything new.

There is no way you can completely abolish all or nearly all fear and closemindness, because some of that comes with age. But the more you can teach them these things, it will be easier for them to learn from you and by themselves.

  4. I'm a 13-year old and... on Java as a CS Introductory Language? · · Score: 1
I'm a 13-year old and i'm a typical hacker. I've been kinda bored lately and I decided to try and get some college credit out of the way.

So I started CS, and in the first class - principles of programming - they were trying to teach in really basic BASIC. It shows absolutley nothing of the real programming world and is completely ridiculous.

When I look back and when I started and what I think now, I think that a language like C++ would be the most beneficial. It would teach OOP, and make it extremely easy for students to learn other langs themselves (I think thats the best way to learn, anyway).

"would leave the homeowner at the mercy of advancing technology, "

    This is what i think:

First of all, the homeowner is not at the mercy of anything until they do something wrong. The heat imaging does not detect much other than illegal actions (as far as i know).

I heard a story recently about a guy who was growning tons of marijuana in his house, and to be able to sucessfully do this, he had to create the right enviroment (HOT) to be able to grow it.

Later, after the police had arrested him and he went to court. His lawyers contended that the way that the police/whoever used to detect him was "unconstitutional" (as everything is called these days). I don't know how this case turned out.

And it'd be true with a lot of other things too.

I think we lose more life/health worrying than we would being exposed to these kind of things...

  7. who owns the rights to space? on Getting Into Space, One Way Or Another · · Score: 1
As this is the first thing i've heard of a private company/individual trying to launch some kind of rocket or whatever you want to call it into space, it brings up an interesting question. Who owns the rights to space?

Almost all the "property?" on earth seems to be owned by someone. But as technology advances, and can see a whole bunch of problems in the future when someone other than a gov. agency wants to settle on the moon- etc. etc. etc.

I can't wait to see how the world governments handles this- but it will probably go through the stages that most gov. invloved legal issues do...
activist groups...protesting...bashing...laywers...money... interpretation of the constitution...and so on.
