OBTW, I believe IPL is the TLA for Initial Program Load.

P.S. TLA is the TLA for three letter acronyms.

  4. Re:MVC vs. Morphic on Manning's Struts in Action · · Score: 1

I am probably not qualified to spout a hundred words on the topic but I can tell you that the comparison you are asking for may not be an apples to apples comparison in the context of a discussion on Struts.

Morphic is a "direct-manipulation User Interface (UI) construction kit" (scroll down to see relevant section) for Squeak. Squeak is "an open, highly-portable Smalltalk-80 implementation"

MVC as it relates to Smalltalk is slightly different than the MVC Pattern talked about in this context. MVC in Smalltalk terms is the name of the actual GUI, as well as a the paradigm behind it. Morphic may be a replacement for MVC in a Smalltalk/Squeak discussion, however in the MVC as pattern discussion, Morphic is not at odds with MVC, it is an implementation of the MVC pattern.

A discussion of Morphic vs. Struts would be in order if Morhpic ran in a Java environment, or if Struts worked in Smalltalk.

    >> seems like this has been going on for about a year but it hasn't been solved

Many manufacturers buy their parts in massive lots. They may not have known about the problem till those lots were exhausted.
If they did discover the problem, they probably chose to accept the failure rate and honor the warranties if they were called on to do so(not likely). Their only other choice would be a recall.

I find it amazing we don't have more problems with components. In light of the growth of the PC market in the last few years it seems electronics parts makers have been doing a pretty good job.

I had SouthWestern Bell tell me 6 months ago that I was a victim of the hybrid fiber/copper problem. They blew me off for 6 months then admitted that the problem was negotiating a contract with PairGain for the hardware. I don't know enough to tell you if they were telling the truth but they say DSL is now available. Good Luck!
