This may all be true but just how much clout has the RIAA got in the rest of the world. It seems this is more like the 40/128 bit encryption fiasco. Where the US Gvt. banned export of strong encryption. So software manufactures 'allowed' plugins from countries that would beff up their encryption.
Netscape and Fortify spring to mind hear.
