    As a child I had a ZX Spectrum. Most games where sold at £5.

    When the Hobbit came out it was retailed at £15, then well out of my league. So myself and some friends formed a cartell and pooled our money and baught one copy that we then coppied amonst our selves.

    I can't rember how meny of us where in the cartell but I'm sure that their where more than 3 of us. So insted of selling x units at £5 where x was > 3
    the softwhere house sold 1 unit at £15

    They went bust soon after.

    The morral of the story; If companies want to protect their IP rights and make money on them then DONT place such a high valu on any individual coppy

    People add new data
    Your Database gets currupted and you have no transaction logging
    People add new data
    You notice the database is currupted and role back to the last backup
    Anny one who has added data since the last backup will loose it

    This means that I have a part share in the road between your house and the shops, where you work, the movieplex etc and you don't.

    In the UK Parents and others can train to become Teaching Assistansts. These are unpaid volantiers who donate their time to help out at their local schools.

    I'm sure that with the vast expertease /.'s have with Open Source projects and the fact that they can leagally 'Upgrade' the entire schools network for free, we should be accepted with open arms.

    Hell we my even be able to start socialising with real humans again ;-)

    - No I can use Liniux BSD OpenBSD UNIX
    2. Can you use Word?
    - No I can use Star Office
    3. Can you use Excel?
    - No see above
    4. What can you do?
    - I can type make install really quickly
    and then can go into the source code to fix the compatabilaty problem between this version and the version of the operating system the program was written from.

    Oh and I can also program in PhP Perl C C++ Python Fortran

    And I can Install and configure a web server, db server and email server.

    I can design and maintain a database.

    I can run a full security audit on all the installed software and hardware on the companies network

    Need I go on

    If you where in the UK with me I'd happaly pay for your kids education.

    That way I'd know that when they become teeagers they woud have a balanced outlook on life and the possabilaty of a well paid job rather than sitting at the end of the street waitng with a baseball bat for your friends and relatives to walk past.

    Good education is the cheepist way of reducing crime that I know.

    And before any one goes on about well educated crimanels, note that I said reduce not elimanate.

    Part of the problem is that when Rail Track (RT) took over thy found they wher paying all this people near retirment age to wandet up and down the line every night.

    As they where spending all the time streaching their legs and they where so close to retirment age any way RT sacked them.

    3 years on RT is wondering where all their enginears are and why no one seams to inspect/understand large sections of the inferstructure any more

    In Hull in the UK.The City did own the TelCo. until about 5 years ago. Then they sold 51% to cable and wirless. Now they are expanding into BT's territry.

    We have a law in Britain that stops individuals from mounting a large number of frivilous law suits.

    There is a much better form of advertising. Its called word of mouth. I'm currently working for the Press Assoc. in the UK. When I arrived I switched my machine to Linux. People askem my what I was doing, and I toled them I like an OS that is easy to install and dosn't crash every 12 hours. Having left my PC on all week and watched my colligues PC's continualy go down while they wher trying to develop their software. I finaly relented and installed Linux on their machines also. Now we are about half Linux and half MS and I'm working on those still left.
