  1. It will be hard to tell. on Netcraft Survey Updated · · Score: 4, Insightful

As the article itself said, even when many IIS sites have gone down, since Gartner's report. It is hard to tell wether they just chaged ip, as the systems were reinstalled etc.

On the other hand, I would see it positive, if it would change some IIS servers to linux. For the growth of linux on the pie has been taken from the other *nixes.

Are there any good ways do advocate such behaviour?

  2. The article in cnet has been updated. on Continuing Twists In Microsoft, Intel Cases · · Score: 1

There is a update on the CNET article, claiming that:

"Two states participating in the Microsoft antitrust case have a message for the Justice Department: If you go soft on the software giant, we're ready to push for stronger sanctions on our own." - CNET

Just tought you should note it.

  3. On Forte for Java. on Where Do You Go After Visual Basic? · · Score: 3

Cons and pros, Of course most of these are generally on RAD tools, but these are what I have Learned by experience. (on the newest release by the forte page.)

    Pro Forte:
    1. Forte is pretty fast way of developing java applications that run on alla java enabled platforms. It can do all the java Swing and AWT functionalities and you can add new Beans to it if you reimplement Swing classes.
    2. On basis of 1. Forte is exellent tool for creating installation tools, as they do not need too complicated java, and run on java VM. (sybase installers are coded on java2).
So this is where I see a chance to plot a linux world domination: If not so power user would have these easy and working installation/deinstallation wizards that would be similar to the other OS's ones, it could make the system more applicable... And admins of some software, like DBA:s etc. could teach them selves only one installation procedure for all platforms.
    3. It is free for non commercial use. (Learning Java!)

    Con Forte:
    1. Forte is not too stable. In win2k (for my work) platform it crashes especially on debug mode.
    2. As a java program it eats (if you let it) humongous amounts of memory in win2k (ok not as much as vb.net but 196megs is barely enough). There is nothing wrong with this if you use it at work and your employer pays the memory.
    3. As so many other RAD tools, its settings are pure blather to a newbie. An after one year of using different versions of it I still do not know if there is a way to make generated code editable in editor and not in popup box 4. It does much of the Java classpath and package stuff automaticly, and therefore developer's often get stuck with them on the deployement phase. (as you no not have to set any of the classpath thins as they are as Forte overrides enviroment variables).

So I'd say its exelent RAD for Java for there is no real competition, to my knnowledge at least.

  4. Desktop and browsers. on Netscape Backs Away From Browsers · · Score: 1

Now that you say it, I did realize that this idea of user interface could relly work. Not for the techies, but for the baseline users. But then what do we need the desktop for? To the basic user (win that is) desktop is just a handy place to have your most importan doc's and games.

On user level, it would be pretty revolutionary, if your computer would not have just a GUI, but a BUI (browsing user interface). To the user this would not be an OS but an single browser to browse your programs, and hopefully as easilly as browsing channels on TV.
Imagine the popularity of .NET if all its programs were "browsable". No more desktop. No more programs. No more difficult filesystem to handle. Just "computer". This could really be popular. Easy. PPL would love it.

What is corporate facism. The funny point here is that all "lefties" are denoting that corporate overpower will lead to corporate facism.

In a (liberal, by definition)world where corporations overpower goverments by law, corporates can be facistic, but they do not have to!
By darvinian perspevtive, evolutionary that is, the most effective corporate systems would evolve from the liberal world. And I think that facistic corporations would not be productive as ppl. in them would be apalled by their jobs.

Why do 90% of IT projects fail their schedule?
Could we get better production with better spirit in the company?
