I heard that Norton Antivirus 2004 and above check for pirate key generator programs and report them as "hacker programs" or some such and then delete them.
You hit an interesting point, can the program check registrations to see if the software is pirated, and then remove it if it is pirated and report it as Spyware? Already BitDefender, a competing product, is seen as Spyware. So we see the MS tactic here to report competitors as Spyware, which makes MSAS look even better.
Think about it, Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, Opera, Eudora, OpenOffice.org, etc can be seen as Spyware this way, and the user is forced to use the Microsoft products that compete with them, to avoid the Spyware alerts.
I thought maybe this book was about the typical Slashdot reader, or maybe Alex Trebeck, or perhaps Al Gore or John Kerry, people that claim themselves to be know-it-alls?
and now they cannot do any more CPR to save the show. So, hey folks, lets do another Star Trek movie.
I think the Sci Fi channel might pick up the series if they are smart enough to show yet another crappy Sci Fi show in their schedule. The only exceptions were FarScape and Lexx, but they got the axe for Stargate 1 and that Battlestar Galactica remake. What where they thinking?
Ah, the heck with it, have a time travel episode where there is a big war, and the people from ST:TNG, ST:DS9, Star Trek:Voyager, and Star Trek:Enterprise are used as pawns in a battle between Q and another Q. Have them bring back Khan and crew, the Enterprise Era Klingons and Romulans, The Borg, and the Cardasians for the evil Q's side, and the good Q gets the Starfleet people.
Netscape to me, is like Firefox, only with spyware and bloated AOL bundled applications.
One of my Nieces visited our house recently for a party we had. She wanted to see one of her pop singers, and in order to see the video from AOL, some AOL software needed to be installed in Firefox, after that my system went crazy, locked up a lot, lost the network connection, and the software seems to want to phone home. I am told that the software installed is part of the Netscape browser bundle. I'll be sure to stick with Firefox sans the AOL software, after I get done reformatting my system to get their Spyware off my computer.
Thanks, but no thanks. Netscape was cool before AOL bought them out. Now Firefox is cool.
I checked the OSX license agreement, and it doesn't seem to be worded the same way a BSD license is worded. It does say certain parts of it are Open Sourced. So this is not an actual BSD license, but it tends to pretend that it covers the whole OS, even the Open Sourced parts, of which it claims are not transferable without the original media, etc. Some Open Sourced parts have a GPL license, apparently.
Except one would have to have the source code to recompile and hope there are no PPC tweaks that need to be rewritten to port on the X86 Darwin platform.
So Photoshop is out of the question, as the source code is not given away, and Adobe does not have an interest in compiling it for an X86 Darwin release.
So GNUStep runs OSX programs? I did not know that, did Apple release all of the undocumented API calls to that project to run OSX code on any Unix that uses GNUStep?
they would have never developed 98.86% of the software they developed, because it uses IP of another company and calls it innovation.
Case in point, Windows using Apple IP by copying the Macintosh look and feel. It was a poor copy, but good enough to mass sell it to the unwashed masses that never heard of Apple or the Macintosh, or understand that what they bought was based on Apple's design of look and feel put into the Macintosh.
So DRM is supported, to an extent, as long as Microsoft can take whatever IP they want from other companies, and make products based on them.
Apparently those rights are such that they can offend other people's rights?
Well, okay then, nothing wrong with them exercising their own rights, as long as it does not impede the rights of others in the process, right?
So much for respect of others, obeying the rules of conduct, and following the rules of order.
I'll bet that lawyer plays Golf with the judge who will hear the case.:)
Police officers also wave their badges at security checkpoints, because they have a job to do and cannot be delayed. The same, for lawyers.
So basically these two men try to take control of a court from lawyers, judges, ballifs, and other staff?
Judges are lawyers too, this could get interesting. I wonder if they will show the court case on pay-per-view? I got the popcorn all ready just in case it airs.;)
Good thing they weren't making fun of Police Officers in front of a Police Station or while in one.;)
Anyway for those who didn't RTFA:

Putting down Firefox fans for gloating, all the while gloating over one's own OSS product that competes with Thunderbird and other email clients like Novell Evolution and Microsoft Outlook.
You also have to explain to suits why your OSS product will work better for them than the Outlook bundled with MS-Office for free. Don't try to tell them that the security is better, because they have developers exploiting those security flaws to automate email processes and also spy on what their users are doing to make sure they are productive.;)
Yeah technology can be fooled. I think the hackers/crackers will find a way to reprogram stolen guns in less than a month. Then when the stolen gun with your serial number on it is used in a crime, they blame you for it, as you are supposed to be the only user of that gun.
Or imagine if you went to use the gun, but arthritis acts up and it does not recognize you. Possibly also hand cramps, someone hit your hand before you got your gun, or you are very nervious and your hand shakes.

Yeah part of the reason why this company didn't make any money to cover their costs, was because they gave the product away for free.
They had an "Underpants Gnome" business plan.
#1 Make online 3D Video game.

Chances are the domain name, source code, artwork, etc will be sold off to an underwriter (accountant or bean counter that is a Corporate Undertaker) who sells the IP to another company that will bring it back as a commercial product. This, for example, happened a lot to the Amiga and Commodore IP. Eventually someone will buy it and make a profit off of it.
Or look at it this way, like Amiga or Commodore, perhaps the IP is cursed, and each company that takes it over has the curse that drives them out of business?
Did Amiga or Commodore release their IP as open sourced or public domain? Heck no! Bet you wish that they did, but not like that is going to happen.
Just not the OSX dirivitives, right? Just that weak Unix OS named Darwin that hardly anyone uses because BSD Unix and Linux have more features available for it? I tried Darwin, and it wouldn't even install on my state of the art X86 system, or even the older 700Mhz Celeron system I had. Red Hat, Fedora, Knoppix, etc worked better on those systems.
Knocking on doors at Christmas Eve? Couldn't they have waited until the holidays were over? Not like the kids were going anywhere.
Want to stop the Bit Torrent? Take down the tracking URL. That is how many Bit Torrents are shut down.
Amazing that OSX is based on open sourced software which was meant to be shared, yet has a commercial license preventing it from being shared.
The horrors, when Pepsi had those MP3 Pirate Kids on their commercials that had free downloads from iTunes. Now Apple is going after almost the same type of kids, only these kids use Macs and share the latest OSX over the Internet.
Yes Steve Jobs played the role of The Grinch is past year, took away their Christmas. Maybe his heart was two times too small, maybe his head wasn't screwed on just right?;)
This new DVD format sounds like it takes away more freedoms than it gives. Who is fooling who? DRM means the rights of the media companies and not the consumer that buys the thing. The consumer is actually losing rights and freedoms here and being forced to buy a new DVD player.
What this will do is force more people to get on the Internet to download cracked versions of DVD images on the file sharing networks and burning their own copies, because the new DVDs won't play in their $60 DVD player they bought a few years ago. Rather than spend $120 for a new DVD player, they spend $59 on 100 DVD-R disks in bulk and start up whatever P2P file sharing program they can and make DVD-R copies of movies from that.
Way to go, the more you tighten your grip on the DRM movement, the more revenue that slips through your fingers.
P.S. The Hackers/Crackers will find a way around this protection in less than a month, and turn protected DVDs into DVD ISO images using a DVD ripper. The ISOs can then be burned back to a DVD-R or DVD+R or DVD+RW disk after that, the DVD ISOs can be shared over file swapping networks.
but I think I'd request a transfer to a hospital that is not staffed by the lowest bidders for Nursing positions. The IV stick would be very painful as Nurse Allthumbs tries to find a vein to stick the IV in and ends up butchering both my arms, and I end up looking like a Heroin junkie or something. Or perhaps they forget to give me my medication and my high blood pressure causes a stroke or heart attack?
In the USA they have laws that specifically target IT workers as being exempt from over-time. I tried to get over-time pay, but then I worked for lawyers that screwed me over more than one way.
Sure I could have quit my job, and not taken unemployment benefits as a result, but I have a wife and child to support. We can't just eat rocks and dirt, you know.
One of my previous employers told me that "IT people are 'a dime a dozen', we get 500 IT resumes a week. We can easily replace you with someone willing to work for almost half your salary, and that does not get sick." I suffered from a disability, and learned about the EEOC after 180 days passed after they terminated me for having a disability.
Most IT workers I know are salaried workers. Meaning you got paid $X per year, divided up into weekly or biweekly payments. They could overwork you 80 hours a week or more, and you couldn't complain or else they'd use that At-Will Employment law to let you go. All other IT shops I knew about were the same.
That is, unless you were an entry level IT staffer on an hourly basis, and then overtime had to be approved by management before you could work it.
one where they keep recycling scripts from the older series. Get some better script writers, maybe those who took creative writing or something, and create more interesting stories that do not "borrow" from older Star Treks or something else.
Also why is The Federation always making peace with everyone? I liked Star Trek for the space battles and hand to hand and phaser combat. I want the old Klingons back, the ones that had hot blood, a hot temper, and didn't take anything from anyone. The ones that would never accept a Peace Treaty. You know, the ones that never became Targs of the Federation. What is up with the Romulans? They used to be as ruthless as the Klingons, only a bit more logical.
Also underdeveloped alien races like The Tholians, should be developed more. Bring back the Tholian Web! Have a Duel between Trelane and Q, for Pete's sake.
If Doctor Who cannot reach an agreement with the copyright holders of the Daleks, strike a deal with them for Star Trek. The Daleks could liven up Star Trek with a dimensional invasion force. If all other races are at peace with each other and holding hands, have them fight off the Daleks.
"to make the world safe for democracy", you see, then the doves (those anti-war) would say "well how exactly are we supposed to make the world safe for democracy by invading Iraq. Who did nothing wrong to us or threatned us in any way?" You have to give them a valid reason. BushCo said "well they have these weapons see, weapons of mass destruction. They could use these WMD against the USA. Our military intelligence says they might have them, so that is proof enough to invade them before they can use them."
Then when we find out, we've been lied to, how does that make us feel?
Now instead you use "Iraq has oil, a valuable resource that we despirately need and will run out soon. Saddam is not a very nice guy and tortures, rapes, and murders his people, but he also controls the money for oil and the oil. Now if we invade and take SH out of power, we can build an oil pipeline and pump out more oil and lower the price of oil. It will generate money into our US economy and help create jobs, everyone will have a share of the loot and plunder."
See how much easier it is when you motivate someone using money or wealth?
Then you use the same reason for Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc. Pretty soon the middle-east looks like a Monopoly board and you got triple hotels on each square of property.;)

A portable CD player. I burn CDRs from the MP3s I buy and Rip the CDs I bought into MP3s so I can remix them into a new CDR.
Costs about $30USD for the portable CD Player.
