Well, they're two different things really so that's probably the reason. AD is just extended LDAP with a communication protocol slapped on top of it and multi-server redundant.... and I'm not a Windows guy, at all.
Im waiting until Samba4 becomes a decent AD alternative and I'll use it on my home network.
