What? That's not typical business practice??? We do that just about every time we ship a software package here. Matter of fact, I'm waiting on software to test RIGHT NOW that has already been promised to the customers that we will ship on Friday...and we are nowhere NEAR done. My boss's motto is, "Ship now, update later." As long as the software will accept an update, we'll ship it with jsut about any bug.
They'll scream and holler about me buying a book myself and loaning it out.
It seems that more and more of these conundrums come from companies/institutions/courts not understanding the enormity of the Internet. Companies that have previously made money by selling information, whether it's books, mp3s, or software, are gonna have to accept a certain amount of loss due to piracy. Small price to pay for having huge amounts of information at your fingertips at a moment's notice, including book reviews, music reviews, or software reviews.
It'd be great if it were only banks, but just yesterday I had to fill out not one but TWO opt-out forms for our insurance...one for our automobile policy, and one for our renter's policy...and they're with the same company! AND I had to use my own stamps and envelopes!
It'd be much nicer if they had to do the work for our information...i.e. Opt-In forms.
I don't know about you, but...
Considering how frequently medical interactions with the human body have unanticipated side effects, I sure wouldn't want to be the mommy of one of the first genetically altered kids. Everything seems fine, then BOOM! third arm growing out of the back of their head!
Oh, and by the way, my boss's boss had me fax dummied-up reports yesterday to show what the client's data will look like.

Me neither...I feel left out...Or does this just mean my friends are smarter than your friends?
