  1. Great for Special Forces. on Honda Assists With "Next Steps" For Mankind · · Score: 3, Interesting

Uses probably not apparent to the Honda engineers: great for special forces soldiers who have to run around craggy, rocky mountainous terrain.

I'd be surprised if the US Army isn't looking into something like this for special forces who do a lot of walking and crouching.

A slightly modified design could incorporate a running assist for a soldier to quickly accelerate to 20mph while running for a sustained distance.

  2. The cracker's scheme on World Bank Under Cybersiege In "Unprecedented Crisis" · · Score: 1

No doubt the spammers now have the goods on the World Bank to have their loan for that Dam they're building to be approved.

And the highway project is done deal too!

  3. What about A Logic Test on Spammers Targeting Microsoft's Revised CAPTCHA · · Score: 1

    ...for email registration.

You know, like at those IQ test websites where you have a series of polygons

and you have to pick which one comes next.

You could conceivably create millions of these fairly quickly,

but even the best bot in the world could never solve it.

    1) Which one is next:  | ...  |_  ...  |_|

         _
    a)  |_|

    b)   _|

         _
    c)  (_)

The solution doesn't have to be multiple choice. You could have the user draw the answer
with some flash app, and then just compare the drawing to the answer. A human would pass
most of the time. A machine not so much.

It would be very expensive, computationally to have bots solve problems like these.
Considering all you have to do is change the shapes (trivial) to stump a bot, but
a ten year old could easily solve one of these.

And let's face it no spammer is going to pay to solve captchas. The whole point
of a botnet is that somebody else pays for it.

If it cost spammers even a few pennies for each spam message, it would be gone overnight.

  4. The tech-monkeys will never get Crackberries! on Workplace BlackBerry Use May Spur Lawsuits · · Score: 1

In the shop I work in, all desktop support techs are non-exempt. They do not get blackberries, supposedly because of costs. In fact there are many _consultants_ working on a SAP implementation who were given new blackberries. Because if you think logically who should have a blackberry, tech-support employees or consultants, of course you would pick the consultants. I find it laughable that businesses are now crafting rules restricting blackberry usage to exempt employees/managers, especially in an IT shop. What you're basically doing is restricting the communications abilities of an essential group in your organization, becuase, shock!, you might have to pay them more.

When the "go'rnement" passes laws that might hinder, in the slightest, freedom of speech, or when the evil and malicious FBI does thier job it's high time to grab your guns and head for them there hills to defend your rights, but when Giant Conglomo Corp Inc. does the same thing you call it capitalism. God bless the Free Market, can I hear an amen. In short the conglomo can't restrain your thinking and freedom of speech fast enogh for you, it's only natural for them to destroy their competition after all, if the governemnt even touches your precious and holy cracking rights it's time for the revolution. First thing we do--kill all the politicians.

  7. Re:repeated recounts on Supreme Court Limits High-Tech Snooping · · Score: 1

It's funny what you say about letting the Democrats think for you, because you're letting the Republicans think for YOU. Do you really think that had the votes been reversed, the Republicans wouldn't have done the same thing? What planet did you come from. As for the Machines being the sole arbitors of the votes those machines missed a lot of them. In an election which was so close you couldn't have expected either side to concede votes to the other. And if you think that the Republicans wouldn't have done the same thing you are crazy. I expect, however, that had the Democrats gotten the state there wouldn't have been such a fuss about the other side contesting the election, and no talk about "changing the rules after the fact."

I believe that using ogg, especially for lowerbitrates like voice recordings for example is much better. Whereas low quality MP3s sound really hissy ogg files sound much clearer at the same bitrate maybe you should include that in your howto
