What ELSE are you doing with your system? I'm running SETI@Home on a Celeron 400 pushed to 450. It pumps out a data unit every 13 hours or so running Win98.
Why be a noone on Team/.? If you're going to join a SETI@Home team, you should really join the Quake Team. A team where you can actually find your own stat istics.
That's the memory clock. There are two different clock speeds we're discussing. Core + memory. The notation for the C/L Ultra (out of the box) is like this: 150/183: 150 MHz core, 183 MHz memory. The notation for the Hercules Ultra (out of the box) is: 175/200.
If you've successfully overclocked your memory to 200, that's great. But your core speed is what?
Ummm, up until a few months ago, there WERE a dozen 3dfx card makers. It was another foolish business decision on their part to bring that operation in-house.
I wonder if anyone at 3dfx reads/.? It would be quite amusing to be a fly on the wall as this thread was presented to the chief executive.
Today, the best performing TNT2 card, out of the box, is the Hercules Dynamite TNT2Ultra. It is manufacturer-guaranteed to run at 175MHz core setting. Every other TNT2Ultra being manufactured today is only guaranteed to 150.
Even the Hercules TNT2 standard is clocked at 143, which is close to the speed everyone else is running ultras.
Visit some of the gaming sites, including AnandTech and Sharky Extreme, to see reviews of this and other cards.
You're right, RocketBoy. Everyone should just stop trying to increase storage density. I always just format the first 31 megs of any drive I get and leave the rest alone. It was good enough for DOS 3.1, it's good enough for me.
Removing tongue from cheek..........100%

Sure, once you figure out how to create the element, manufacture the shell, transport it to the battlefield, target, fire, and hit within a millisecond or so.;-)
We know a lot, but not enough. NASA wants to send people to Mars. In order to do this, we need to learn an enormous amount. How do you keep a group of people alive and sane when isolated from home in a way that NOONE has ever been isolated before? How do you deal with those biological issues that happend only after 18 months? This is a primitive field that deserves a great deal more study. In the grand scheme of things, the amount of money spent on space research is ludicrously small, leading to infighting between the groups advocating different research strategies.
The space station will also teach us more about construction methods in microgravity. The space station can provide a place for advanced ship construction.
I believe it was Arthur C. Clarke who said 'When you're in orbit, you're halfway to anywhere'. It would be kind of nice to be able to take a pit stop.

Are you suggesting that the only function of DNA is to guide cell division? It's not.
DNA is quite literally the assembler language for life. The code on the DNA is used continuously by the cell for ongoing physical processes.
Broken DNA leads to broken proteins. This is extremely bad juju in a brain.
