Muppets != puppets. Seriously, did you intend to make non sequitur arguments? The first sentence isn't even worth refuting. As for CGI, only in the last...how many years? has it become cheap and easy, with thousands of classes of students learning how to do it. They ain't all masters, that's for sure, and it shows in their work.
Actually, on further thought, you're right and I'm wrong. Jim Henson was a moron who animated a crappy character and any CGI done by someone who knows the menus of Maya must be intrinsically better.
If you speak PHP, then Drupal is for you. Hack it to your heart's content. If you are a mere human looking for a turnkey FOSS CMS, Drupal kind of sucks. The main problem is the modules. Sure, Drupal is modular, but unless you can take apart code, you're going to be out of luck when your calendar module affects your classified ads module for some bizarre and unexplainable reason. Or, when you have to perform a critical security update that breaks (in various unpredictable and subtle ways) the functionality of various modules. Stock Drupal is rather pointless unless you've got a couple dozen modules installed. Let's see, what else...oh yeah the forum sucks donkey balls. My users repeatedly complained about it, and when I said something about it on drupal.org, I was told that I my users' comments were not welcome, the developer appeared shocked that anyone might have a had different experience than he did, and my comment was deleted. I managed to cobble together a working site...barely. I've solved so many different problems that I'm afraid to add more functionality for fear I'll break something (again). But if you can code in PHP, then Drupal is great to invest a lot of time in fixing its problems. You'll end up with a spiffy looking website that does everything you want it to - you wouldn't even know it was Drupal except for the distinctive URLs. On non-coder websites like mine, a glance tells you it's Drupal, even if you change the theme. Yeah sure, I'm supposed to hire a developer to work on it for me. If I had money coming out of my ears, I wouldn't have chosen a FOSS CMS. I'm mostly satisfied with my site, but if I had known ahead of time how much effort and hair-pulling it was going to be, I would have chosen something else or just bitten the bullet and paid $$$$ for closed-source software.
The point isn't that you are trying for the most photorealistic aliens ever. The point is, Yoda is a space alien who is also a Buddhist master who is also a muppet! (The muppets used to be quite popular, despite looking like rag dolls, they had their own TV show with its own little culture, and at the time it was quite witty and groundbreaking to have a muppet playing a straight role in an otherwise conventional fantasy movie.) I don't remember anyone complaining about the cantina aliens because, let's face it, what are aliens supposed to look like, anyway?
The real issue is that people like Jim Henson were masters of their trade. Today, any idiot can fire up some software and make an alien who looks 100x "better" than Yoda. However, the mastery isn't there, and it's obvious to everyone except those to whom newer means better.
Your suggestion is analogous to saying that I should take cooking courses so I can find all of the problems with food that I previously found delicious. I just really don't get this audio snob stuff. I mean, if you want to spend thousands of dollars on gold-plated cables, that's your business, but when you start telling me I'm an idiot because I don't have the same ideas as you, then there's a problem and it ain't on my side.
Bing has crap results for my magic keyword, too. I know my website is the #1 site on the net for info about my topic (really) and I'm not even on the first 10 pages of Bing. The wikipedia article with all the mistakes on it is still #1 though.
Doing food chemistry in the kitchen is just novelty. The restaurant is loved because it's new and exciting to the jaded, idle rich. One immutable property of novelty is that it always wears off.
At 192K and a good pair of headphones with good material I think most people could learn pretty quickly to pick up the difference
Why on earth would I ever want to do that? I enjoy my MP3s now. You're saying I should study how to pick up the difference, so I can get totally fucking annoyed by all but the most perfect sound files? Maybe I'm misunderstanding.
Dude. Relax. It's not a documentary. The movie was based on a freaking comic book. It was an awesome movie, the kind that you're supposed to watch with a bigscreen and bad-ass sound system. They didn't portray the helots either.
How dare you put words in the mouth of another. You ASSUME that's what another meant? Assuming makes an ASS out of U and ME. Grammar nazi means correcting "they're" and "their" while trying to totally obliterate whatever point was being made by saying, "oh if you can't conjugate verbs then you have no credibility whatsoever" totally ignoring the fact that the entire human race is not a master of our written language. Especially when considering the education methods employed in the modern USA, it is simply unfair to judge people in such a way. It's not their fault that they weren't taught to use the language properly.
But for one to assume that someone else meant something, that is far, far beyond any grammar flame.
It's always more difficult to create original works than to mash together the works of those more talented than you, and call it an original creation. It's like someone coming up with an idea, getting it produced in China, and then watching the substandard copies roll out of shanzhai factories. You get all the criticism, and they get all the credit for being new and fresh (not to mention the profits). A better man might have said "If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants." An entertainer in 2009 might have said "Congratulations Rihanna on your Grammy award win. You have done our country [of](sic) Barbados proud!"
The term "innovative sampling" has always amazed me. I mean, it's like "military intelligence", "jumbo shrimp", and "journalistic ethics" - the words don't go together, man.
I hate KBR with the best of them, but give their engineers credit where it's due: how often have they delivered completely collapse-free bridge hardware?
Okay, you believe that a one-week exploit is the same as a zero-day exploit. No. If it's zero-day, then the vendor has no chance to fix it or offer a workaround. Seven-day, well everything could have been fixed by now! I think you need a different word for this concept, because "zero-day" means how many days? This is a pop quiz. Sorry that it has math in it, I know that's hard for a lot of people.
I bow you you sir, I have decisively lost this argument. I promise to be more trusting of security professionals in the future. I will assume that they know what they're talking about and will refrain from questioning them. Words mean what they want them to mean and not what the rest of the world thinks that they mean. Particularly, I will not be a sarcastic douchebag as security professionals never take that role, especially when posting anonymously on Slashdot.
PS how, exactly, would a malicious third party patch a bug? If you can't tell me for security reasons it's OK, I trust you. You're a security professional!
even if the guy is renting, the owner of the apartment is paying the same taxes and that will have to be covered by the rent
You miss the point. School taxes are not paid by the child, they are paid by how much property the family that owns them occupies. This is the main argument by childless families against school taxes. You have zero children and are paying huge amounts (that only get larger every year, arrgh! almost enough to make you anti-tax, but you wouldn't do that because everyone should be happy to pay more taxes to support others that don't deserve it) and yet some dumbass with a 900 sq ft apartment is able to have as many children as he likes. All these children will have equal votes with your children (if you have any) and it's just not fair. Why the FUCK should they get a free ride on your dime, while you get nothing? And don't give me this crap about education benefiting everyone, we have that now and it resulted in two wrong results in elections (2000/2004).
The truly equitable solution would be to tax people based on how many children they have, but then that would run afoul of various UN treaties on human rights which state "Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family." as well as "The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State." and other bullshit that needs to be repealed ASAP.
The better question is which FREE CMS you want to use. I've been using Drupal for a while, and it sucks. But, much like Democracy, it sucks less than the other (free) alternatives. Unless you're a PHP coder, you won't be able to do much with the software. And if you are a PHP coder, then why are you using an off-the-shelf solution when you could make your own?
You know, I said the same thing about Bu$hitler, and got shouted down and modded to -1 Flamebait.
Obama uses his middle name to appeal to audiences who share a cultural connection with it. He should only be allowed to use the positive connotations, and anyone else who uses it for any other reason should be "an enormous flaming douchebag"? Honestly, do you not understand the value of diversity of thought and encouraging the opinions of people with whom you disagree? It's all I've heard for the past 20 years, and all the sudden anyone who dissents needs to shut up and be publicly shamed?
So, if the UN cares more about China's opinion on human rights, surely this was a golden opportunity to introduce what the term actually means by taking a stand and refusing to back down. I quote from the UN Human Rights office:
"Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice."
What did the UN do? Caved in to tyrants, of course. It's what the UN does - look at its record. I say this without rancor or anger, it's very sad what the UN was intended to be and how it has turned out in the year 2009. The idea of an international organization of nations is a good idea, but the United Nations as an implementation has failed.
Well! Any country which uses another country's navigation system for military purposes is just asking for it. It's foolish to the extreme. Seriously, who would ever stake their country's national security on such a thing? Incredibly stupid. Oh yeah, right, it's free and we're lazy.
I don't think anyone has called America isolationist since December 7, 1941. Actually I would welcome some introspective isolationism but then America would get criticized for "turning its back on the world" or something else...it wouldn't even matter, they'd invent something.
Well, yeah, pretty much. Can you imagine someone saying, "my group in society contributes so little that we should exterminate ourselves by making it illegal for ourselves to reproduce"? Of course not, self-preservation is a characteristic of life.
And if, during my little quote above, you instantly thought of one of society's groups other than your own who could benefit from eugenics, then you're a bigot and a monster and we really aren't going to be able to hold a conversation. Sorry, doesn't mean "you" as in SanguineV but the general "you".
Actually, on further thought, you're right and I'm wrong. Jim Henson was a moron who animated a crappy character and any CGI done by someone who knows the menus of Maya must be intrinsically better.
What the heck does Wordpress have to do with a Drupal story anyhow?

Wordpress is a blog, not a CMS. Apples and oranges. PS what the heck does Wordpress have to do with a Drupal story anyhow?

Uh, dude? Infallible Wikipedia? Surely you can't be serious.
See how stupid that sounds?

Refer to Inigo Montoya above as needed. Apply to forehead if necessary.
