But the key is no credit or other info. Just name and address.

This is Microsoft once again throwing their weight around. Remember when we used to get operating system cds? Microsoft said stop and now we get these darn restore disks the wipe the harddrive!

I'm sure being such a user friendly corp Microsoft will fill in your credit info as you buy MSDN subscriptions in your passport for you. I don't know about you, but I'm not inclined to trust the security of the Microsoft servers with my credit info.

I guess this means no more MSDN subscriptions for me. Oh well, the company looses more than I do. (I got my first year free, and was considering paying for the second year)

The point of my message was, making photos look more like paintings didn't make them fine art, and by the same token making computer graphics look more like paintings wont make them fine art either. The key is to understand: that computer graphics, (even if we to filter them to make them look more like a painting) is a media in which someone can express feelings. That expression of feeling is the very essence of art.

This is exactly what I ment when I said computer graphics could go the same way as photography. (look for my message in the ask slashdot: fine art?) Photographers trying to get the technique reconized as art blurred their pictures to make them look more like paintings.

Now it seems that computer graphics can take the same aproach. The intresting thing is photography did not become an artform as a a result of blurring the pictures. It became an artform by having people reconize being in the right place at the right time, and being able to see a message in the movements of the everyday takes as much work, skill and insight as painting.

  6. What is Art? on Are Computer Graphics A Fine Art? · · Score: 1

Once again, we are challenged with the defining what art is. Not all that long ago, Photography wasn't considered art; and as a result of trying to get it defined as art, the photographers tried to make their photos look more like paintings. Do I see this happening to Digital Photos and Digital Art? The quick answer is no. I think we all can see that it does take skill to pack a great picture into that 32x32 grid for an icon. It takes just as much skill and insight as a photograph, just you get an undo button.

Flounder, you raise an interesting point. What about moderation of posted martial? Or a script the changes those 4 letter words into *s. Would those be infringing upon the author's rights? And if you print out a message, is that copyright infringement? Kind of scary if you ask me.
