programmer A is 10x more efficient than programmer B, so naturally he turns into a primadonna, especially since this relationship is not recognized in salaries and/or status. only solution: ask for more money. or start your own company.
an idiot writes code only a genius can understand, while a genius writes code even an idiot can understand.
for those born after 1986 and everybody else who hid in a nuclear fallout shelter: check out www.chernobyl.com
a few quotes about the disaster:
- "The people of Chernobyl were exposed to radioactivity 100 times greater than the Hiroshima bomb."
- "More than 600,000 people were involved with the cleanup many who are now dead or sick."
i don't know about you - but i think these are perfectly good reasons to give up on the technology. and don't get me started on the cost of safely storing nuclear waste.
the advantages of pollution vs radiation should be clear: there are filters for pollution. and it generally doesn't last 10.000 years. doesn't have the potential to directly kill tens of thousands of people, either.
i really want one of these. unfortunately, there is no good reason to buy one - i have a powerbook (as silent as the cube but with one advantage: i can take it to the cafe) and a win PC for development.
i do remain confident that apple will bring it back in some form or another, though.
cheapest for traveling: 2nd phone

SMS vs. E-mail?

i found the least expensive way of having a mobile phone in europe was getting a brand new one from an operator in my home country (austria).
the US phone [a crap ATT TDMA unit] costs $40/month, i pay for incoming calls and i have no SMS. the austrian phone costs $6/month, i don't pay incoming and SMS is included. the phone was free with the contract.
that's $46/month for an international phone w/o ridiculous international roaming fees in europe and US.
2 phones, cheaper than 1. it makes no sense, does it?
on our university, the server was constantly running a run-of-the-mill password cracker program (dictionary, names, replace i with 1, o with 0 and all sorts of other "tricks"), which would send offending users a not saying basically "your password is stupid. reset it or you will be kicked".
the nicely explained how to create safe passwords first of course. since i would classify as the cryptic type, mine was never cracked.
since i can't remember tons of passwords, i have several categorized ones i use over and over again. categories go from low security (from sites that will lose the pwd anyways or store it unencrypted or for pwds that go over IP unencrypted (POP email,/.), to high security.
i remember W3D... it was kind of a guilty pleasure to play it all the way through on my old 486 - being in austria and all where swastikas and nazis are a No - No (capital N) and playing this game with hitler pics and swastikas basically plastered all over the place.
it was extremely politically uncorrect, that's why it also was fun (the "nazis = bad => killing nazis = good"-conclusion being somewhat foreign to the non-american mind).
i think it's totally ok to make fun of nazis as a group because they are so ideal. hitler and his closest companions were even part of a weird cult with ghosts and stuff... really! what could be more ideal?
finally: note to id: sorry, zombies are not creative. not even close. quit bragging about it.
