Obligatory, "How can it be secure/private/etc. when it runs Windows 10" comment that I know will be downvoted....

We already have this, its called 'prepaid'. Albeit you cannot get the same services for a decent rate under prepaid. Example: 20/mo for a few megabits(bytes?) of mobile data on AT&T's GoPhone product.

All of this would be fixed by a very simple law - anybody ought to be able to set a limit on their monthly bill. If I call up evilphoneco and tell them that my cell phone bill is capped at $90 per month, then I don't care WHAT services I consume - they can't charge me more than $90 per month. It is their job to keep me from using services I haven't paid for - not my job to avoid accidentally incurring them.

    Poor baby...

Here in semi-rural Alaska (US), on the highway system, its $65USD/Mo + 22% in taxes for 512kb/512kb DSL with an incredible allowance of 2GB for data transfer, $20 each additional or fraction thereof. I can get 1024/512, still with 2gb for $100/mo. They havent been enforcing the caps too strictly of late since the cable co now offers 10mbit/1mbit for $500/month -- yes five hundred dollars. Email and html web browsing are the only 'approved' uses according to the TOS for both vendors.

Add port blocks and throttling and forget about streaming anything no matter what service your on.

I have no sympathy for you....

  10. Re:How I would do block pricing on Cable Packet Shaping Causing Slowdowns · · Score: 1

Welcome to pricing in rural Alaska.

    $25 for 64k/32k 1GB
    $35 for 128k/32k 2GB
    $65 512k/64k 5GB
    $75 for 1.0Mbps/128Kbps 10GB
    $115 1.5Mbps/192Kbps 15GB
    $165 1.5Mbps/256Kbps 20GB

Additional data transfer is from $5/gb to $50/GB depending on the type of backhaul to Anchorage (satellite or terrestrial cable/fiber). Discounts available for using the cable co for your LD service, rates assume your a cable TV subscriber. www.gci.com

And maybe get rid of flash-only content? Flash has to be one of the largest violators of ADA accessability laws out there. You cannot screen read it, cannot resize the text or change colors, does not hook into adaptability tools, and you rarely have a text only alternative. Personally, I feel flash is the bane of the internet next to spam.

  12. Re:Why use USB ? on VoIP at $15 a Pop · · Score: 1

Regarding call charges, these are probably break-out charges from the Internet into the Telephone network. A necessary service for this device to be used practically, i.e. calling an ordinary Phone.

Did anyone check out the telephone termination charges for calls here in the US? $0.05/Minute. Why use the VoIP service when a BigZoo(tm) prepaid calling card is only 3-4c per minute. Same as 9c to Canada through Inno. . . . I vote with my wallet, I'll stick with my prepaid card.
