  1. Re:Texas Instrument on What Was Your First Computer? · · Score: 1

My parents finally bought me a TI when they got tired of the manager of the neighborhood Radio Shack calling them about me hanging out all the time playing on the TRS-80's.
Dad was all set to shell out the money for a modem and then WARGAMES came out- mum squashed the modem idea instantly. I didn't get a modem until I was a freshman in uni with a Tandy 1000 and got a job just long enough to afford the old Tandy 300 baud that you had to manually dial the number then flip the toggle switch at the carrier tone.

A few years ago I set up a similar system for a private client who wanted to "dispose" of data in a hurry if needed. I never asked what he wanted it for, figuring the less I knew the better. We wraped 2 feet of demolision cord around the drive, covered that with a length of 1/16th inch copper to shape the charge. When we tested it- it cut a old full size Seagate completely in half. All this was attached to the "Turbo" button on the case. (Finally a practical use for that button)

  4. Who's payroll is Ziff-Davis on? on MyDoom Windows Worm DDoSing SCO · · Score: 1

I opened my email this evening and look what Ziff-Davis has to say about the OpenSource community's reaction to the planned attack of SCO-
"...Find out who's saying what, and where
these sophomoric and misguided posts are coming from."
    Followed by:
    "..Ignorant Open-Source Fans Praise MyDoom:
http://eletters.wnn.ziffdavis.com/zd1/cts ?d=75-117 -1-1-588930-5203-1" They cite only TWO posts that might come close to this description, yet the lead in makes it sound like the whole O-S community is a bunch of net-thuging twits.

At least they put in a plug for our beloved Slashdot (backhanded as it may be)
"..Reactions on Slashdot, arguably the largest discussion board for technophiles, displayed a cathartic wave of pleasure, "Finally a worthwhile virus!" exclaims one poster."

They take a few potshots at folks who hold the theory that this is all a ploy by SCO to discredit the O-S movement.

So the question remains- is Z/D taking SCO money to say un-nice things about Linux users, or have they snuggled up with Bills check book for the same reason? Might make a nice Slashdot poll?

DWP's are still one of the finest devices on the planet for annoying the neighbors. Its amazing how many times I feel the need to print off large log files at the very same time the neighbor is "getting romantic" (His bedroom is on the other side of the wall from my computer room)
Sometimes when I'm feeling really cold hearted I'll fire up my Epson 3250 dot matrix at the same time and print off some .pdf files.

Ah yes...the faithful Tandy DWP-410- Doing its part to preserve computing history AND prevent unwanted pregnancy.
