Since stupidity is one of the primary characteristics of humanity... Well, you get the idea. That explains the existance of Windows, VB, and a whole lot of other things...

  6. Re:Everybody's doing it on Netpliance Pays Up For False Advertising And More · · Score: 1

Often times, companies don't even pay rebates, because they go out of business so quickly. Then there isn't anything you can do about it. Even if you do get the rebate, you have to wait a minimum of 6-8 weeks for it, while they collect interest on your money.

IMO, rebates are a scam. They serve no real purpose whatsoever, except to occasionally rip people off. Instead of just paying $30 for Age of Empires 2, I have to wait and save up $50, and then wait 3 months for the $20 rebate, just so microsoft can make an extra $0.25 in interest, which doesn't even cover the postage.

I wholeheartedly support banning of ALL rebates.

  8. Enforcement? on Microsoft "Bans" Use Of GPL Code · · Score: 1

No matter what Microsoft says, they can't possibly enforce the ban. People will use GPL software anyway, and Mictosoft won't be able to stop them. Even if they incorperate a function into the OS to detect GPL software, somebody will make a hack to get around it. The more microsoft tightens it's grip, the more market share will slip through it's fingers.

Microsoft's Tony Goodhew, project manager for Share Source CLI, said Microsoft is moving in the same direction as open source code advocates, but wishes to continue to protect its intellectual property from commercial exploitation by others. It seems to me that Microsoft is the one doing all the "commercial exploitation" in the software industry. Talk about hypocrisy...

The existance of black holes can be proven several ways. 1.) When an object gravitationally bends or lenses light from another star, measurements of that can be used to determine the mass and density of the object. If it is much to heavy and compact to be a neutron star, it must be a black hole. 2.) When matter falls into an alleged black hole, it becomes brighter and brighter as it speeds up, but then becomes dimmer due to gravitational red shift, then disappears. There is no other explanation for this phenomenon than the existance of a black hole.
