    An armed guard on the plane is probably a lot more effective than all the invasive security procedures.

          Not to mention a locked cockpit door that no one can get through - at least in the couple hours it might take to land somewhere.

    And what about inflation? You seriously think that someone will be able to live on 80k a year in 20 years time? Especially with all the major governments printing money like mad?

    And don't even get me started on taxes. Actually this kid's best bet is to save the locket and auction it in 20 years' time, or whenever he's ready for the money.

          That's kind of stupid. What is the difference then between "invitation of theft" which you say is a crime, and "invitation of rape" if a young girl wears provocative clothing while drunk in a bar?

          Leaving your car running and unattended does not justify someone stealing it, and any legislation to that effect is seriously fucked up.

    If one dollar buys one candy bar, why should that change if there are more dollars?

          Because there will be more people wanting candy bars, since more people will have dollars. This causes an increase in demand, so the provider of candy bars raises his price to auction his remaining candy bars to the highest bidder. While you might think this means that candy bars cost more, what it really means is that the purchasing power of the currency has gone down.

    It's not psychology, it's supply and demand.

          And I read it as "we are NOT going to sue unauthorized Kinect developers unless they come up with some really revolutionary, astounding and above all - money making - idea."

          A comment which shows a surprising lack of imagination. How much does $5 million worth of diamonds weigh? Or how about large numbers of flights carrying small amounts of say, cocaine or heroin?

    We have numerous technologies for shooting down missiles

          Yes but this is a model aircraft traveling at 35mph and 100ft in the air, with virtually no heat signature (especially the electric ones powered by lithium batteries) and very little radar signature. How will your 5 million dollar missile distinguish between this and ground clutter?

          As for infrastructure - right. You won't bust bunkers with this, but I wonder what a couple of them filled with incendiary material could do to a petrochemical tank farm or an oil refinery...

    I can't believe that no one has considered two possibilities of UAV technology. Firstly, in terms of cross border smuggling - which country will be able to afford to patrol their entire border 24/7 looking for a tiny UAV that is virtually undetectable? And secondly, UAVs can easily be turned into small cruise missiles with only a very minor upgrade. Never underestimate the power of 1 or 2 kg of high explosive delivered with GPS accuracy.

    Of course you have just presented yourself as a person who cares more about someone's party affiliation than the actual content of whatever they are saying. Did you even bother to read - never mind, I know the answer. Just keep voting for your party and hope that things will get better. They won't. What the hell is the point of giving someone a vote when they don't even understand or care what they're voting for? /rant

    When did we start excusing governments and other authority figures from law? The US president is ordered to hand over emails, and he apologizes and "loses" them. The Catholic church is accused of covering up years of sexual child abuse, and the Pope apologizes. The British government steals organs and desecrates corpses, and someone apologizes.

    How about giving these people the same consequences as if it was one of us "normal" people doing these acts? Are you trying to imply that we wouldn't have the full weight of the law fall on us? Are you saying we could get away with just saying "I'm sorry?". This has to stop, it's the path to despotism.

          No, I wouldn't put all my money on the corporate world being able to keep secrets.
