  1. The power company has priced themselves right out of the market. There is absolutely no way, what with economies of scale, government subsidies, etc. that I as a private citizen should be able to produce electricity cheaper than a power company. But hey, power companies are government enforced monopolies, so it stands to reason that eventually they forget how to make money, keep putting expenses up and keep raising prices. Until this happens. Now they're going to scream for government protection to outlaw diesel generators and force people to pay much more than any sort of fair market value for their energy, just to keep the inefficient power company inefficient. Because jobs, you know...

A lot can happen in a month. Like the DJIA going from 18000 (Obama) to 21000.(Trump). You might think it only means something to Wall St. until you realize that the American worker's 401(k) is plugged directly into that. While no specific policy has had any market moving effect, simply the attitude and confidence of traders pushed the market up. Now the big boys can cash out to all the late-comers and momentum traders (you can't sell if there are no buyers) and will have liquidity for new projects. You can only keep the economic motor running so far with churn, and churn is what we've had under Obama since..... 2010?

  20. People need to work in order to live, and they need to commute in order to work. At one point you stop taxing "convenience" and are in fact taxing survival. Governments are parasitic by nature but it's never in the parasite's best interest to kill the host. You might tell yourself you're real smart when you start thinking about the inelasticity of demand in this case and how wonderful a tax would be. Then you wonder why the mob with pitchforks and torches is battering down the town hall door. Fix the problem instead.

  21. So town planners are mad that people avoid sitting in traffic and want to find a way to force people to sit in traffic? I didn't realize that generating traffic jams was the actual goal of the transportation people.

This is actually a growing concern of late, as we have seen a number of top businesses start to hoard cash

Pretty sure they don't have $200 billion in $100 bills sitting in a vault somewhere. So who the fuck cares if the "hoard" cash, if by "hoarding cash" they have it invested in stocks, bonds and bank accounts - all of which puts the money back in circulation. When you buy a bond, the guy who sold you the bond spends your money. When you buy stock, the guy who sold it to you spends your money. When you open a bank account, the bank spends your money. GET IT? Stop this lame "saving money is bad" argument. Money is always circulating. Always.
