Space Tourism is too bloody expensive. I personally would love to get involved in something like this, but the kind of costs involved are prohibitive for anyone without more money than sense.
On the other hand, if I told my friends I was trying to raise money to go into space on a 40 year old Russian rocket, they might all chip in...:-)
and have concluded that it incorporates the use and threat of violence towards the children's character Barney without permission from Lyons Partnership
Is the logical implication of this that Lyons Partnership are prepared to give those who ask permission to brutally savage Barney?:)
Anyone know if there are any modern Vector-based game systems available? I've not seen any, either arcade games or console - but then I do live in Europe!
Is there a solid technical reason why vector systems are not made any more, maybe?
I live in a country where there are no legalised casinos and very limited numbers of gambling machines in existence.
It strikes me that there's a severe privacy issue here that could prove serious - consider the situation where there are two employees going for the same job. They appear to be entirely equal, and the decision isn't easy. The employer calls the casino and discovers that one is a compulsive gambler, and therefore the other is hired.
If gambling is your dirty little secret, do you want this information stored somewhere? Even if it can only be retrieved in certain scenarios?
...can it be done anyway?
I remember reading somewhere that the GPL was unenforcable in certain provisions, namely that that required all source to be opened if even the slightest bit of GPL code was used.
I could of course be totally wrong - at any rate, I'd appreciate some links on the subject if anyone has some.
Thanks
Right now these things require reader units. If in the future they don't, then comes trouble. I can just imagine if they manage to get a GPS transponder running in a chip that size - you could be tracked everywhere...
Of course it will. Just wait - you'll be running Windows XP on your washing machine within ten years. You'll know that the system crashed when your laundry comes out bright blue and covered in silly numbers!
To add to my own post - I run Mac OS X as my main operating system.
I did try Red Hat 6.1 on a PC ages ago, and I liked it, although I felt that some basic configuration (like changing the monitor resolution, for example) was a tad on the complicated side. Of course it may be easier now...
Since lasers cause blindness when shined in the eye, you wouldn't be able to see if aliens were firing lasers at earth.
Since we can all see, this proves that aliens are not firing lasers at earth. Right?
why did they tell the Russians to upgrade to a newer version to solve the problem???
...to make more money, of course!
I'm astonished that Russians trust software made by a US company to look after state secrets of this nature...
I wonder how stable Windows CE for Nuclear Warheads(R) is. Of course we should expect a Mushroom Cloud of Death(TM) instead of a BSOD, though...
I knew I'd heard something like that quote somewhere, but I'd no idea where :)
Isn't the best evidence that there is intelligent life out there the fact that it hasn't contacted us? :)

...are we there yet?
True, but to my knowledge there are no web sites that publically disparage Big Bird.
:)
There should be, though

...what's the point of Barney if he's not an object for disparaging? :-)

...I always wanted a Super Soaker as a kid. All my friends had them. I was given one recently, and the magic is still there.
I still believe, though, that a Paintball gun is far more effective for a good afternoon's fun.

...what effect does the DMCA realistically have on you? Does the US government have the right to tear apart foreign web sites?
Those two were almost household names... what's left now?
I dunno - St. Patrick's Day seems to be celebrated worldwide for some reason, which I've never seen happen with any other national holiday...
Woohoo! Linux flying cars and Microsoft washing machines. Which is more cool, then?
Dunno about that - if the site has been slashdotted, a 1.7MB file may take several hours :)

Just out of curiousity... how many other Slashdot readers beside myself don't use some flavour Linux on one of their principal computers?
Microsoft may be dumb - but they're not dumb enough to try and bill possibly the largest section of intelligent computer users out there :)
