    And not let the masses get to all the information avaliable on the internet? We should only let a privliged minority have access to the great wealths of information that can be found on the net, only wideing the class distinction? No, it might have been better for you back when you had to be very computer literate to get online, but for humanity, I think that the relative ease of getting online now is a good thing (tm).

    Very true, but that's the affect Linux zealots have on people. A few bad apples ruin the barrel, and a few Linux zealots whining about "M$" give Linux a bad name. Hell, I wrote a whole little essay on it here

    I'm not sure exactly what the point of your post was, but for gods sake, can not anyone get it right that the DC itself does not run CE? It's the disc that decides the OS. Arghh!!

    That's cause it is a fringe operating system. Most people have never heard of Linux. Almost everyone has heard of Macs. Warp was too dead before computers became "popular" so most people don't know about it either.

    But the whole point is moot because if you want to listen to something that uses Real Player, you're SOL. It's just like once site I can't view in Linux because it uses Quicktime extensivly. It's annyoning that Linux does not have that support, and it's also why Windows will continue to be popular as long as it supports more nifty plugins than Linux.

    This is one of the HUGE reasons I can never get my dad to use Linux. He doesn't see the point in using it, and he's right. NO ONE he has ever met in the business world (he's a sales engineer that sells valves) uses Linux, and they ALL use MS Office. And Star Office is not good enough, it better than nothing, but it still has it's hicups with MS Office documents and the such.

    What causes that stuff anyway? Is it a MS program like Frontpage or what? In Windows, it looks just fine, but in Linux I seem to get those ? sometimes. How come does it do that?

    Yes, I'm under 18 and I see how I'm discrimated against, but what would you do? Make everyone take personality and maturity tests before they could vote or watch an R rated movie? Then you'd hear crying about privacy rights. There is no clear and concrete answer. Yes, the sytem is flawed, but is it worse than any other system?

    Yes, you have the right, but if your "protesting" distrubtes the learning of other students, or causes harm to other peoples (in this case the schools) property (ie cracking/hacking the computers), then it is not protected.

    Rare (they're a subsidiary of Nintendo, so they don't really count)

    Actually, I'm pretty sure they are their own company. They just choose to work with Nintendo exclusivly, as a second party developer. They could go to the PSX or such, but I wouldn't count on it.

    But what has always kept me as a disbeliever is if this all was true, how come nothing ever seems to come out of it? How come the Oklahoma City bombing happened? How come the Columbine shootings happened? If this were all true, why didn't the NSA pick up on the upcoming events and make those guys "disappear"? How come the NSA hasn't shut down Slashdot because of the type of discussion that comes here? Why hasn't the NSA shut down the website that tell the world about these conspiracys? Maybe this is true, I frankly have no idea, but common sense tells me that the odds aren't that good. But that's just me.

    Yes, you can. I have a Creative DVD player, and I booted into Linux just fine for installation. I'm not sure if it would work if you had both a CD Rom and DVD though, because I only have a DVD player.

    How does that violate the rules? I mean, he's not moderating right now, and hasn't moderated this thread at all, so what's the big deal? I moderate every once in a while, heck, you can easy tell by how high of a karma they would have. I know that someone that has a karma of 120 would moderate, but they can still participate in the threads when they are not moderating that story.

    Speaking of that, what happens when 2,029 comes? I mean, wouldn't it be Y2K all over again for a lot of these companies who used the windowing fix? And don't count on them replacing the computers, that's the way it was supposed to be when programmers originally programmed the code back in the 70's. And we all know how companies replaced the code, yea. I'm sorta concerned about this, why not make it totally safe for the next 8,000 years instead of only the next 30?

    My history teacher was talking about that Friday. Young people never vote, and so that's why you would never see a politician in the high school auditorium, trying to get the seniors to vote for him/her. But they will campaign really heavily in the retirement communties (and there are a lot in Florida) because old people vote. So that's why social security and medicare are always such big topics, politicians think that that is what is most important to the people who voted them to office.

    I created one and tested it in IE 5 and Netscape 4 for Linux, and both did not look right. The one in IE looked OK, except it was centered, which it normally is not for a .jpg or .gif picture. It also seemed to almost crash my browser, when I right clicked, nothing came up. I had to use the toolbar at the top. In Netscape, it doesn't render at all when you just view the image. If it's in a page however, you can see it. Gifs all looked correct. PNG is not ready for the big time in compatibility.

    Well, I guess it decided not to give me a +2. Hmm, do I post as anonymous, so when someone moderates it as offtopic, I don't lose karma, or as my real nick so it's easier to tell who I am? Another real life example.

    You have to have 26 points before it starts +2ing your posts. And in response to the comment above the one I'm replying to, sometimes I wish I could make my views known, yet not have it affect my karma because of it. For example, I like Microsoft. Ohh, I said the dirty word. Anyways, sometimes I'd like to post arguements about why MS isn't all that bad, but then I'm afraid some zealous moderator would mark it as flamebait. Yes, I have seen that happen. And then because /. is messed up, I don't have the option to undo my plus 2 ranking, which could get me the moderation of "over rated". I've gotten a lot of that too, in fact, that's probally my biggest cause of losing karma.
