Maybe I'm just totally crazy, but it seems like I saw a website about plants http://www.plants.org/ They somehow turn waste products from animals (urine, feces, carbon dioxide) into nutrients! However, the project is open source, so I'm not so sure about its future. After all, if anyone can just go pick nutrients off a stationary life form, who would pay?
AOL can distribute so many CDs because their customers pay for the service. Do you really want Sun to start changing $23 per month for using Java? Do you want as many Java CDs as there are AOL CDs? Besides, the latest JREs are always free for download from the Sun website.
Java should be pre-installed on all new computers along with the OS, web browser, and other bundled software.

That covers Java applets. But what about Java appliations? That's where client-side Java is taking off.
