  1. Re:Boys be Boys on Sun Files Suit Against Microsoft for Anti-Trust Violations · · Score: 1

If this is seeking damages it is probably a civi lsiut and not a criminal suit.

Look at the O.J. case; he was aquited in criminal court, but found guilty in civil court.

Your constitutional reference does not seem to apply unless this is a criminal suit, in which case sun would be looking for legal action against Microsoft instead of cash.

  2. How About on Content Faction v. Tech Faction · · Score: 1

This is screaming for a non-profit company that takes donations. The expenses are cut out and artists are paid as a percentage of the remaining money, equal to the percentage they are downloaded. Sell the idea as a place to get cheap content, drive for-profits out of business, and then remind people that if they do not donate, the content will go away.

    Everyone wins.

  3. VD on Microsoft's Vision For Future Operating Systems · · Score: 1

I actually spent some time about a year ago designing a system much like this. It was actually a message passing microkernel type OS for the Java Virtual Machine. We called it VD(Virtual Domain). At any rate I jsut couldn't afford to do it, but on eof the advatages was that people could use it without entirely sacrificing the current OS's applications, although they generaly would not have inter-operated. Some of this stuff isn't around today, but many of the ideas are not new.

I just wanted to add one thing about the AIX lvm. When he says "on thr fly" he means tht a filesystem can be grown WHILE it is still mounted. You can also do a mirror WHILE it is still mounted and being used by users. I started out on linux, and like the lvm, but there is nothing worse than realizing you need more space in a filesystem, and users are still using it. Of course this problem could be helped by better planning, but if we were all perfect, then there wouldn't be a need for too many of us.

It i bothersome to here so many people talking about a free market place. We tried that, and it blew up in our faces in the 30's. Capitalism IS a self-defeating system. Inevitably somone wins, and then they are like a government, except we don't get to vote for them. If microsoft ever makes significant inroads to the internet server market, they could stop MS users from accessing no MS sites. I would prefer not to wait that long.

This is an ABSOLUTELY silly opinion. Anti Trust legislation did just pop up out of nowhere as a conspiracy of the governement. Too many people nowadays cry about lettign the market decide things. Capitalism in this sense is self-defeating, someone wins, and then you have a dictatorship which you can't change. You would be singing a differen toon if this was oil, or steal, as it was when the beginnings of anti-trust came out. None of this would be an issue is they were'nt an effective monoply. I pass on gass

  7. It never was on Why Won't You Pay for Content? · · Score: 2

We never had to pay for it. The content hasn't gotten much better, and now we have to pay? The real issue with this is a behavioral one. It is like spoiling a child. It is much harder to discipline them after they have had freedom, than to give them freedom after they have had none.

The funniest part about posts like this, "and this is news", i that you obviously read it. The same goes for those you complain about MS /. stories. You are in the minority, just refrain from reading them, and keep your mouth shut.
