  1. Is it just me?? on W3C Approved Patent Policy: Royalty Free Standards · · Score: 2, Interesting

Or are alot of the Big wins latly going to the little man and screwing the big guy. Look at the last several legal victorys as of late. Rolayty free standards, grokster, etc. Is it possible that we are starting to finaly see the legal system work and not just be bought?

  2. Re:whats the big deal on Ink Cartridges with Built-In Self-Destruct Dates · · Score: 1

what this does by putting forcing an expiration date on the cartridges. HP cuts their tech support calls down. They don't have people calling bitching about crappy print quality on a "New" cartige. Yeah it sucks but it covers there arse.

so you get 4 and a half years to use the cartidge after you buy the thing. if the ink hasn't dryed up by the time you get around to using it, the quality is going to be shit. expecally with those ultra high end ink jets from hp where you continually expect outstanding quality.

  4. Hmm... on Linus on DRM · · Score: 1

I really don't see the point of changing the GPL to disallow DRM. DRM itself is not evil. Only when you use it im properly is it evil. I the community used DRM to load the kernel then the OS would be even more secure.

ok, its simple enough, boycott these evil money grubing bastards

here is a short list of things you would have to stop using.

-no more movies, weither in the theater or in the home (VHS/DVD) even the ones you already own
-no more TV, all your local programing stations are owned or affiliated with MPAA/RIAA members
-no more cabel TV all the cable carriers are owned by MPAA/RIAA
-no more cd's buying or listining to
-no more radio, same as buying cd's only the radio station is paying them you are paying the radio station by buying the advertisers products
-no more computer games, most game destributers are affilated or owned by MPAA/RIAA companys
-check your internet connection, unless you are with a local isp your paying the MPAA/RIAA money to surf the web
-I would also venture to think many web sites are hosted or affilated some how with MPAA/RIAA
    -no more newspapers or magazines

Think of this a boycott on all MPAA/RIAA related feilds leaves you basically twiddling your thumbs or even worse becoming envolved in plotics.

(its the only thing else I can think of that wastes as much time and money and playing computer games)

the day that they put a patent on the memory retention within the human brain is when I feel that line should be drawn. Otherwise, its just like that music industry when an artist signs with anouther label then the previous label has no right to sue for copyright violation. this has already been taken to court with some country singer (can't remember there name right now). But the point is... that you may have designed a system for one company then another company hires you to design a similer implamentation. IMHO its perfectly legal, freelance game programers do this all the time. Then again IANAL

you see, I too was in there shoes. I had the plans all set out to do the same thing. I could have kept my parents from finding out what I was doing, and they watched me like a friggin hawk. It ain't hard to hide a 6 inch metal pipe in the garage, the wicks in the sowing cabanet and the gunpowder in the air duct. Come on! bad parenting is to blame, its those asshole libral children they went to school with. Now I know that not all of you can see this but, look at it from my shoes.

You go to school everyday(your parents make you). Everyday when you get to school, starting at age five, you have at least one person calling you a name, saying this about you or saying that about you, or in some other way getting stripped down to nothing because you look different, you act different, or what ever they decide to pick on you. Have this happen to you for about 10 years. See how much self esteem you have. Seritonin, what-ever. ADD and sh*t. One day, you are getting picked on and bame! It comes to you, I can stop all of this. If I just .... what ever. Most times it was just suicide for me, but there were times when I drew up these elaberate plans, simialer to theirs.

Why did I never do them? Simple, I went to a different district in high school and was accepted there. Had I go to the high school I was supposed too? That question will never be answered. Who knows you all could be talking about the Wellington High Shootings and I would be dead.

If you have to blame anyone blame those F__Ks they were forced (by state law) to go to school with.

    But thats just my take!

Being pissed of at society isn't bad. How else do you think change happens.

  15. One more take on Fed Raids Software Pirates in 27 Cities · · Score: 1

Ok, piracy is bad, I'll be one of the first to admit that, I'll also be the one of the first to admit that I pirate software. More out of nescity then anything else. Still a student and working fulltime as a technician I don't make a whole lot of money and laying down $200 for the latest and greatest M$ OS just doesn't fit into my already tight buget. I do however pay for any game that I play, because they are priced reasonably. The other side of this is because I am a tech I need to stay current with whats out on the market. It is more feasible for me to find a pireted copy and what till I can afford to purcase it so that I can stay current. Now if M$ would charge $50 for any version of its OS then this whole piracy thing would be less of an issue. How many people do you think would then buy the liceince as opposed to D/Ling it from DoD or thier favorite FTP.

I have been useing warez since I have been plugged into the net. I don't horde, I don't openly distibute what I have, and I don't advicate it. But if you were starving would you not take a half eaten loaf of bread from the dumpster, that is stealing as much as piracy is.
