It sounds like Paramount has looked at the popularity of the http://www.newvoyages.com/Star Trek New Voyages and realized that it can revive Kirk, Spock, et. al. without Shatner, Nimoy and the old cast. Recasting these characters probably seemed pretty risky before the fan flicks broke down that barrier. Personally, I would love to see Paramount get behind New Voyages for real and help them crank out some of thier planned episodes.
Not at all. While a) and b) are nice side effects, I'm sure the purpose of this is to: 1) Throw as much of NASA's budget is possible into a single mission 2) Cancel the mission.
Clearly you are right.
How does posting an item on e-bay for auction merit going to a certification class for auctioning? Although it sure would be nice to send some sellers to class on e-bay auctioning...
Hey Micheal, Was your friend complaining becuase he received that e-mail unsolicited? It not clear from your post. I receive a ton of stuff from Dr. Dean, but I signed up for it. Also, was there an opt out clause at the bottom? There is spam and then there is SPAM. It seems you are saying "using notorious spamhauses to send out the actual email" as a criteria for spamming, and as far as I know, that is just not the case.
He has stated he drives one becuase his home is in the country and he needs the SUV both for hauling (mostly family) and four wheel drive for dirt roads in the wintertime. Seems like Dean is driving an SUV for the same reason people drove four wheel vehicles before SUV's became the trendy car to own...
Look at Dean's support base - He has thousands of people giving small amounts of money. He doesn't need PAC's or Business subsidies! This is one of the main reasons I support the man.
Nader should have run in the Democratic primary! Look at what Dean has accomplished already - even if he doesn't win the nomination he has effectively shot down the "Bush-lite" approach for Democratic candidates. If you have enough supporters to beat an existing party, you have enough people to reshape it. If you don't have that level of support, then you only hurt your cause by splitting the electorate.
I noticed the site looked a bit cheap too. It doesn't look like a site intended for future audiences, but one setup as a pitch to financiers ("future revenue streams?") Looks like this one is very early in the production stage, if financed at all... Its been a while since I read the book, but as I recall, its not exactly action packed. The best part about the book is its suspense, and the growing desire to satisfy ones curiousity about what is in the object, and then where it came from. Fairly hardcore Sci-Fi, I can't see it becoming a blockbuster type success.
The reason that scripting languages are used on the server side IS performance. They run within an application server that does not need to start a new thread of execution for each call. CGI scripts suffer from lousy scalability which these languages remedy.
I second JGuru.
Thier FAQ section rocks. If you are stuck trying to do "something" say for example, how do you use JDBC to connect to a MS Access database, just search the JDBC FAQ, and so often the solution is there! Great site!
What I don't understand is why Moby and every other major music artist is focused on album sales. I realize this is "easy money" when compared to actually going out and *playing* thier music, but I would gladly pay to see Moby live. Yet thier tour this summer involves all of 8 stops, getting no closer to Omaha than Chicago and Denver! How did musicians earn a living before recording albums? Playing it to audiences! Technology gives and technology takes away. So now artists need to go back to the old model to make money. Boo hoo. I have to work to get paid too.
