The trees, indeed, will die.. ensuring natural regeneration through sustainable forest management with the help of the 'carbon incentives' may help the forest stays as carbon sink. Of course, how the incentives will really help the forest management remains in question due to lack of good forest governance in the tropical countries.

Peat swamp is a larger carbon sink but don't get much attention.

  3. asking /. for photography? on Best 35mm SLR Camera for Beginners? · · Score: 1

Are you sure asking photography at slashdot?

Photography is an art, so you better watch out since the geeks tend to concern about the equipment than the picture.

    But here's my two cents:
    0. don't believe whoever say: get this brand! get this model!
it's the man and not the machine after all. Try some camera and take with the most feature/price ratio and the feel in your hand AND the viewfinder.

    1. get a (camera) system instead of a body
AFAIK, canon eos lenses fit with ALL eos body (except one lense), this is good if you want to go digital later, your lense will not be a waste, AND canon cheaper body tend to have more feature. DO your research on other brand.

    2. forget the 'must have all manual body to learn photography'.
this is nonsense. you can learn lighting, DOF concept, and everything with autofocus body!

what i've use..? old Nikon FG-20. still my favourite. light and reliable. i will invest on canon system though.. someday..

So for these species it would be less risky. On the other hand, a reserve in Africa would be ideal, and it is possible to have a reserve without major problems from poachers if the location is right.

a fed animal is a dead animal!
okay, it's less risky in oz from the poacher, but a wildlife is not a wildlife in a controlled environment. (i'm not saying a cat or a dog, or other domesticated animals).

zoo's keep on saying they are conserving species. they don't! they kept animal, feed them, and sometimes successfully get newborn animals, but how much of them can be returned to their natural habitat? very seldom, espescially on 'higher' animals such as primates.

this rich man idea is dangerous.

  5. Re:Same old Cut 'n Paste argument. But anyway... on Deciphering Windows Product Activation · · Score: 1
And then there's the user base argument. When people are pirating your software, they're strengthening your monopoly. Just as it's good for FreeSoftware everytime a Linux/*BSD CD is given to someone new, how does it hurt MS when a home user borrows their friend's Win95 CD? The more times Win95 is installed, the more people are using it and the more likely that person is to become a valuable Windows-using consumer.

agree.. Here in my country, it's almost 99,95% of the time i saw illegal OS/software being used. And most of the people here just don't realize it. Why? because there are *plenty* of illegal windoze cd's and it's apps everywhere. If mikrosof want to sue, there's a LOT of people to sue.

So most of the people now using windoze, they like it. It's cheap (pirate cd's, remember). And EVERYBODY's using it. They laugh at me for using linux as desktop... pity isn't it.
