    In particujlar, this bit:

    From displayport.org/faq:

    Q. Does DisplayPort also support audio?

    A. Yes, DisplayPort supports multi-channel audio and many advanced audio features. DisplayPort to HDMI adapters also include the ability to support HDMI audio.

I wound up on this page however because my DisplayPort audio wasn't working. After searching many sites, I learned that the video driver (vs. audio driver) is responsible for the DisplayPort audio; while updating my video drivers (Intel HD Graphics 4600) I specifically noticed in the log it installed an Intel audio driver as well. After this driver update I'm able to see the TV/audio device listed under Control Panel->Sound (LG TV/Intel Display Audio), as well as under Device Manager as Intel Display Audio (in addition to my regular audio device).

As others have mentioned, it's up to the manufacturer to support/implement audio over DisplayPort. Other research has indicated that the DisplayPort to HDMI adapter must also support audio. Odds are if you're using a laptop with a common video device like Intel or AMD, they implemented audio over the DisplayPort and you just need the drivers for it.

    Bottom Line: Update Video Drivers.

The current ISS doesn't have the additional radiation shielding that an station in cislunar space would require. Additionally, it's design and instruments are pretty well tuned for its current mission. We're far better off with a new station.

It would be great if an international cooperative effort could be made in this direction, but in the current political climate, I think that level of cooperation between the space powers is extremely unlikely. We certainly shouldn't wait until everything here is hunky dory before we move forward with exploration.

  23. Well, it's not a platform that most devs that want to make a living are going to bother with at this point, so it was probably the right decision. Emulation is a great crutch, but it's not going to be ideal for the kinds of apps that people use day to day, because emulation carries a tremendous processing overhead that translates to battery utilization.

  24. Sorry, I actually enjoy being able to control things in my apartment by voice. That's actual, real functionality to me. You may not agree, but I don't think you represent as much of the target market for these devices as you believe yourself to. It's like "why pay an extra $30 for a HD monitor? 480 P is just fine. I can't see the difference". Your dismissal of such functionality is a bit silly. "I don't need voice commands" is one thing. "I don't like that so I don't think it offers functionality to anyone at all" is myopic.

That said, I can't imagine bringing something like an Echo into the office. I don't even want to issue voice commands to my computer or watch in that environment. That is a head scratcher.
