There's a Tex-Mex restaurant chain that for years and years has had a tortilla-making 'robot' the sits in their lobby and makes fresh tortillas all day long.
I remember getting MCSE training at an outfit called Ameritrain some years ago that had a 'robot' in their lobby that would fresh-grind coffee and brew it for you while you waited.
Where work right now there's a couple different designs of coffee-grinding-and-brewing 'robots', too.
There is nothing impressive or 'innovative' about this, it's jus another machine that performs one pre-programmed function: making your a gods-be-damned hamburger. The definition of 'robot' is getting about as blurred and obfuscated by assholes in marketing as they've been doing with what is and is not 'AI'.
Nothing to see here.. ..and I wouldn't even eat that shitty hamburger if you gave it to me for free.
That's just my flippant way of saying "not my problem if you can't get TV stations where you are, that doesn't invalidate OTA TV as being a good thing".
And people wonder why this site is seen as nothing but a playground for anti-social assholes.
You're here, so I guess that proves it.
I gloat at people because as soon as I heard about this 'cord cutting' phenomenon, and how they were all then paying to watch shit on the internet instead, I said "you're not cutting anything, you're just paying for TV anyway", for which I got "LOL it's totally different you're a luddite etc etc etc". Now a few years later we see that I was 100% correct, you're all a bunch of fools, and in the end you so-called 'cord cutters' will end up paying more than you did for just cable TV, because you pay for Internet as well -- and most of you are still being subjected to ads and commercials anyway. Meanwhile I'm here with no Cable TV, and an antenna on my roof, and a DVR more full of stuff to watch than I have time to watch it all, and I pay nothing for all that content.
Same goes for all you fools and your 'streaming music' services: you're paying to rent music, instead of owning copies of it, so you're literally lighting your money on fire. Meanwhile if I like something I'll buy it and listen to it as much as I want for free, and I don't need an internet connection, that your 'streaming service' is also collecting usage data from, to listen to any of it.
The overall theme here is that you fools keep paying to rent things more and more, and own them less and less. You're lighting your money on fire every time you do this, giving it away to rich corporations who just get richer, while you get poorer and poorer. You even more and more do the same thing with housing and your vehicles: renting and leasing things instead of owning them, being saddled with the responsibility and costs and extra rules, and getting no long term benefits from it. Meanwhile The Rich own more and more of everything. It's like you want to be sharecroppers, or indentured servants or something. Get a clue.
Yeah sure you did. Same shit, different delivery method, and you're still paying for it. Want to really 'cut the cord' and stop paying for TV? Get an antenna.
B-b-b-but Rick, I can't get any stations where I live!
Move to where the food is. Otherwise I guess it sucks to be you.
So far as I'm concerned, in the current socio-political climate, you can't afford to be a fence-sitter anymore, you're just watering things down now when you do that. You aren't allowed in many places to vote for candidates in primaries because you're Independent. Pick a side, buddy, and help try to steer things towards there being balance in this country again. Hold your nose if you must when you do it, but do it. I had to, too, and I'm not thrilled about it, but we're at the point where if you're not part of the solution, you're definitely part of the problem.
Whatever, IDGAF, this is such a stupid subject every time it comes up, this UBI shit WILL NOT WORK no matter how much Magical Thinking you want to do about it, and even if it happened it would ruin the country not save it or fix poverty or any shit like that it'd make MORE poverty for MORE people. We're already a joke to the rest of the world this would just make the joke permanent. FORGET ABOUT IT. You're working the rest of your life, get used to it.
Why fund it at all when it's money down the drain that will ruin the U.S. economy? This UBI shit will NOT scale up, plain and simple, and it assumes money grows on trees. Just forget it, it's never going to happen because somehow there are still people in this country who like me can do basic math. Even if you had a Magic Money Tree you'd have to shoot all the conservatives in the head because they'd never allow 'socialism' on this scale to exist. Besides which all it'd do if it were even practical and possible is create a whole nation full of fat lazy layabouts with no ambition to do anything since they won't have to anymore. Seriously, take off the rose-colored glasses and throw them away.
Guess what, Sunshine? The U.S. has always had enemies in the world, and in the last 30 or so years? We've acquired so many more. A reduction in our millitary would be viewed by the world as a sign of WEAKNESS. Thanks to Trump, even our long-time allies are starting to waver, because he's such a goddamned jackass, and you know what? The U.S. CANNOT stand alone militarily, regardless of how much we spend on our military. Without our allies we'd get overrun by our enemies wherever we operate in the world. That would just embolden more of our enemies, who would not hesitate to attack wherever it is they wanted to, secure in the knowledge that the U.S. either won't or can't respond. You think the world is a mess right now? Just imagine if the U.S. pulls back from everything because we want to give away money to our citizens so they can sit on their fat asses and do nothing, which is what the damned 'UBI' is: another welfare program. Know what our military does? It protects U.S. interests all over the world, and supports our allies, who by the way also support us when we need them. If the U.S. stopped doing all that, we'd have NO allies when WE need them, and some very shitty situations in the world would just get worse and worse, nasty terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, Daesh, Hamas, Boca Haram, just to mention a few, and countries hostile to the U.S. like Russia, Iran, and China, to mention a few, would NOT STOP building up, taking territory, gaining their OWN allies, and before you know it, THEY are dictating to US how we're going to live, what WE can and cannot do in the world, where WE can and cannot go in the world, and so on -- assuming that is that some country with the resources to do it, like China or maybe Russia, doesn't decide to invade the U.S. and take over. That is the world we are living in, that is the Human Race at our current state of development. Do you really think that all the threats and bad shit in the world will magically go away if we just get rid of our military? You're not living in reality.
Also, consider this: If someone is willing to PAY to use some part of Facebook because it's some membership-only group with a specific focus, then the data that ZuckerBook can steal from that will be even higher-quality and higher-density data than the usual drivel that the average ZuckerBook fool gives away, so theoretically ZuckberBook can charge even more money for that data when they sell it to the FSB in Moscow.
They don't need to do anything as ham-fisted and obvious as taking a cut off the top, they're getting everyone's Very Much Personal Data for whatever 'interest' the group they're paying to be in features, and I can guarantee you that gets ZuckerBook more money than these 'group operators' will charge.
You people are having all your very personal data scraped, surveiled, logged, analyzed, categorized, profiled, and sold to whoever can pay Zuckerberg for it, and on top of that you're going to pay for access to parts of Facebook?
My sides, they're exploding, I'm laughing so hard!
..but since that's an AC and likely I'd be talking to thin air and you're logged in, I'll respond to you instead: You're dumb. If we killed our military budget, not only would we, as one of the previously most powerful nations on Earth, be defaulting on our obligations to our mutual free-world allies, but we would also open the door for ALL of the enemies of the United States to just walk right in, bitch-slap the shit out of us, kill our citizens, destroy our Government entirely, and TAKE OVER. You want be a subject of the Communist Chinese government? Or of Vladimir Putin? Or be subject to Sharia Law, and since you're likely not Muslim, be treated like a third-class citizen, assuming they even let you live?
Pre-emptive strike: Math is still math, UBI still doesn't scale up, UBI fanbois need to keep it in their pants, calm down, and resign themselves to working until they drop dead, no free ride for you or anyone else, not until you invent 24th Century Starfleet-style matter replicators and plentiful free power to run them provided by ubiquitos antimatter reactors. </subject>
Bikes aren't ever going to be banned, and that just burns you for some reason, but that's too fucking bad, get used to it. Chances are you're a shitty aggressive driver who experiences road-rage on a daily basis and therefore you are the one that should be removed from the roads. People like you are the ones who are why they're trying to condemn us all to be strapped into self-driving cars and die horribly when it fucks up, thanks so much for that asshole.
They can 'legislate' anything they want but they can't enforce anything on any country that doesn't agree to have it enforced on them. They're wasting their time, they're clueless idiots, and they should listen to their technical advisors who are doubtlessly telling them "This won't work".
I can sit here and write shit in Python that processes data and presents it in some format or other. For that matter I can pull up Excel and do basically the same thing. but neither one 'thinks', it just does what it was told to do. We don't even understand the mechanics behind how we humans 'think', therefore how do you expect us to build machines that can do that? Rhetorical question, we can't, and we won't be able to until we can understand how that actually works. Thinking that you can just throw bigger and bigger computers at it and just have consciousness 'happen' is what's called 'magical thinking', and it only happens in science fiction stories.
Two takes:
1. Companies and investors thought this whole 'AI' thing would be Just Another Typical Design Cycle. They were all wrong, and now they're scrambling to try to at least make their money back, instead of having to scrap the whole thing.
2. People who actually think for themselves instead of just being a bobble-headed me-too go-along-with-the-herd type gets scoffed at, jeered at, and generally insulted for daring to think differently than Everyone Else, and it's not like Everyone Else engages their brains enough to understand something different anyway.
Before any of you waste your mod points on me because you don't like my opinion read this:
A teen-oriented series set at Starfleet Academy from Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, the duo behind the recent Dynasty reboot and Marvel's Runaways adaptation.
Now, do you really think that's such a great idea? Most of you hated Wesley Crusher on ST:TNG and wished his character would get killed. How can you get behind this bullshit? Garbage.

Only if I get to be the Car.
They 'cut the cord', LOL

A 'person' can be smart. 'People' are dumb panicky animals, and you damned well know it.

Ask a Facebook user, I haven't had an account there in years and years so I have no idea what it even looks like.
I got bad news for you, son..
My sides, they're exploding, I'm laughing so hard!
I seriously hope you guys don't do this.
low taxes and a huge military
Those are mutually exclusive. You don't understand how things work.
Set the US military budget to 0

Wow, that's asking quite a bit of 39 inches of fiber optic cable.

Maybe someone should create an APP for that, or are they all LUDDITES?
