IANAL... Are there any Kazaa servers in the US? If not then the RIAA doesn't have a leg to stand on. Seems they could use the Yahoo France court case, where a US judge said France had no jurisdiction to force Yahoo to remove items from their auctions or get fined, as a basis for throwing a US case by the RIAA out of court.
Took me a couple minutes on HP website to configure a vectra with Mandrake. Don't know about others makers, but the business computers have the choice of operating systems. XP comes default, but you can choose others when you do all your specific configuration.
Isn't the entertainment industry about 40 billion and the electronics industry 400 billion or more.
I wonder if they realize how many jobs people have in the entertainment industry vs. technology. Especially in places like Indiana. I mean here in California it is a little closer (not much mind you with tech havens in Silicon Valley, San Diego, etc.), but name a entertainment corporation that hires anyone to work and live in the midwest.
Yeah some patent ideas are crap but there is another point you are missing.
Say your a company that comes up with a great idea, say a new drug that will stop or inhibit some disease. You publish your results and any other company can now make it. Wait you have to get the millions of dollars back you spent to come up with the drug while all the other companies just have to build a manufacturing line. Capitalism has to have some incentives.
That is what patents are or should be. An incentive for coming up with a good idea. There just needs to be a better way to filter out the crap from the good ideas.
And please don't start on how drug companies would rather treat a disease, than cure one. That is a whole separate issue.

Quick question...

Pretty easy to find on google. Go to article
In some ways autism reminds me to a lower level of the kids in Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. Wonder if he was onto something.
