    mysql users who want to make postgresql people look bad? perhaps you didn't already notice, but they do that all by themselves without any assistance whatsoever.

    mysql stories always end up being accosted by hordes of postgresql missionaries, perhaps they'd win more converts if they weren't so shrill "you're going to HELL unless you convert, you miserable sinner!"

    maybe its the fanatic and demeaning attitude of postgresql users?

    sort of like why nobody uses qmail or openbsd -- because djb and tdr have egos the size of galaxies.

    Somehow I doubt you'll stop claiming the mysql code is messy though. It's fashionable to bash mysql these days, and nobody wants to give up their pet reason for bashing it, even if it's baseless.

    sounds like mythtv should switch to sqlite. it's far more suitable, has a less restrictive license than postgresql, is easier to embed, and has zero-configuration. not even postgresql can boast zero-config.

    why not use sqlite then? the license is even less restrictive than postgresql's (it doesnt have the chest-beating "you must include this advert for ucb" in it).

    i'm curious what exactly was unclear about the paid license. were you distributing mysql-based software binaries to your customer or not?

    guess the war on terror isnt all that important anymore, since they're focusing so hard on prosecuting sex between consenting adults that they had to establish special task forces.

    keep that in mind when the feds beg for more antiterrorism funding. just tell them they can go raid the pr0n task force funds before they come begging us for more $$.

    sure democrats would love to kill off porn, i doubt they'd divert antiterrorism funding and personnel to establish special antipr0n task forces to do it though. police actions have always been the hallmark of the religious right.

    the only punishment that historically seems to have any impact on corporate behavior is to send corporate executives to prison. anything else has no effect, it's just "the price of doing business".

    It doesn't matter what feature set actually mysql has, it's just hip to bash it just like it's leet to bash linux when you're a (free|open|net)bsd fanatic.

    actually what happened was dec got distracted by itanium, dec lost focus, and alpha development largely ground to a halt. a brilliant move by intel to sabotage the competition. the dec/compaq/hp fiascos were the final nails in the coffin of axp. the 21264 was the last real innovation to emerge from dec, it was all downhill from there.

    a friend of mine worked at dec in their unix labs from pre-compaq-merger to the fall of axp and it was interesting to get his insiders view of things.

    now he single handedly brought down dec's alpha? that's a new one to me. rather good, but a new one.

    maybe people should just wake up and realize the alpha was a crap cpu -- way overpriced for the performance it (didn't) deliver.
