Do you mean backdoors like http://www.hick.org/goatse/ ?
Butt, seriously. This Red Flag Linux will be under communist GPL except for the secret backdoor for the Ministry of Truth. Red Flag Linux is free as in communism, all property is public property but you don't have free speech. I think this will be tied into the Cisco Chinese Censorship Firewall in a small part of the kernel that does the censoring on the user's computer. That would free up censor processing at the chinese center for internet censorship.
I've got a parody Star Trek TNG video called "Far-Q" which features Wesley Crusher being blown up in the shuttle, Captain Picard getting it on with Doctor Crusher and then applause when he returns to the bridge. I want to get my hand on a copy which can be put on tape and record that at the start of a friends TNG collection.
> "If you're watching DVDs you don't want your wife to know about, you might not want to give her your password," said David Caulton, Microsoft's lead program manager for Windows Media.
Hmm, maybe not giving her the password is just as good as telling her about Debbie from Dallas not being a soap star.
Regretably, I'm anti-linux so my stuff is ignored by moderators. To moderate on slashdot, you have to have a high karma and a lot of pro-linux posts. Currently my karma is -4, it was -11 6 weeks ago. Even counting just 5% of my serious posts will only get me 1 or 2 points back for all the stuff slashdot moderators disagree with.
[note to moderators: this is not offtopic as it deals with censorship which is what RIAA is all about] I say that "freedom is the freedom to say 2 + 2 = 4, when that is granted all else follows." If we allow big brother to dictate the price of free speech, then we have no free speech, we have corporate speech. If we consider a 24 hour per day, all year online only radio station with an average of 1000 listeners, then RIAA is asking for $133 677. 60 per year in Copyright Royalties Association Payments. This is 0.14 per song per user, 10 songs per hour, 24 hours per day ($336 per day) times 365 days a year ($122 640 per year) times ephemeral costs of 9% = $133 677.60
How is an online radio station going to raise $133.68 per user per year? Advertising? Most people listen to online radio to escape commercial radio, would subscription work?
I have a better idea, use a Filesharing program to have a radio grid of stations. And yes, I'm doing just such a thing in a GPL projcxt called Samizdat.
I'm working on Samizdat, a GPL filesharing program which has internet streaming included. If you want to listen to music or see movies from your friends computer, then I see no reason why not. It could be save disabled if there is a copyright on the resource or just plain open to all.
Friends, Slashdotters and Linux Geeks. The First amendment of the US constitution grants you the right to free speech. The DCMA is unconstitutional and should be ignored by every american citizen who wants the American Way to mean something.
You have the right to a free press, so why not stand up for your right to broadcast information you paid for? The RIAA must be made a mockery, in the way they make a mockery of your constitution. If you want to buy a CD, download it first or listen to it at the record store. Don't listen to the radio stations, why should you have to suffer ads for crap you don't buy and DJs who talk while the song is playing?
A terrorist does things to get america to pass laws to make america as bad as the terrorist, do you follow the stupid laws or the american way? And why should you not regard the RIAA as the same kind of threat to your rights?
The Samaizdat program I've developing (yes, GPL for all you slashdot geeks) has internet radio and TV streaming built in. If you want to be a radio station or a movie channel, you can do that with Samizdat.(c) [you can do that with Samizdat is a copyleft trademark]
Samizdat is a part of the Kaos operating system but it will be freely available to any OS. This is not about ripping off the world's largest media companies,it's about a free press. If you want your own TV, Radio or Website and you don't even have a static IP to run from, Samizdat can carry your info anywhere.
Speaking of inbreeding, I just called out "Democracy" when the Queen drove by my house a few minutes ago... It's good to live by the beach road from the airport to the city in wellington...
Your Girlfriend and I got into a bit of bush, I got about half a dozen bites on the neck a fortnight ago. Took a week for the bitching to stop, your girlfriend is just able to walk now.
Echelon does read everything online, it's run from the countries who effectively run the internet. It can censor anyone in the member countries, there are certain keywords it looks for. It can even filter out the keywords from your access if they are actively monitoring you.
If you doubt what I have to say, read Body of Secrets by James Bamford.
Utopia isn't a description of a Communist society, it describes a moneyless society with a communal labor system and a fascist government.
Communism seeks to abolish slavery in it's traditional sense and "wage slavery" as the cummunists describe it. Utopia had a slave labor system of criminals and immigrant slaves who rented their services for 5 years.
It is clear that the system described in Utopia is closely related to fascism by the xenophobia of the Utopians and their strict moral laws.
I take an interest in many of the factions of anarchism, yet I am not an anarchist as such. I seek liberty, ecology and capitalism because this best fits my view of evolution. I say the state and religion are evolutionary dead ends, it only creates illogical thoughts which have no evolutionary purpose.
I believe that a minimal set of laws and punishments should cover everyone. I believe that people should be free to vote on issues which concern them directly, not though some jackass politican. A secure network of voting computers, with a polling booth in every suburb should be enough to let the people decide what is law. I believe that we should be free to know what food we buy is genetically modified and with what. I believe we should tax the use of oil and diesel as transport fuel to make hydogen fuel cheaper, global warming is too dangerous for idiots like President George W Bush to ignore.
I think freedom of religion also means freedom from those who seek to impose it on you. I'm sure the mormons and hari krisnas are nothing but cults to take your money.
Therefore, I'm an evolutionary anarchist, I believe in adaptive anarchy.
No, Anarcho Communism involves a system of governement.
True Anarchism is against any system of government, and doesn't advocate the abolition of private property which is where the anarcho communists stand out from True Anarchists.
The main reason Anarchists of the late 19th century were feared was the Anarcho Communists who started the Russian Revolution. Lenin and Stalin then started a counter revolution to create a communist Dictatorship.
A lot of homosexuals in the early 20th century were communists.
They got their PhDs in game theory? I was studying computer science and math for my double major degree in science, yet game theory was not a valid option for a PhD.
Anyway, I got sick for a few months so I couldn't go up to PhD. Now I'm writing an operating system from the games projects I did outside of uni.
China is not the only country to censor the intenet, it is however the most open admittance of censorhip. The major English speaking democracies also have their own internet censorship regime called Echelon.
Echelon is the most effective internet censor network in the world as it covers every IP address, domain name, email, IM in the world by receiving all satellite transmissions and monitoring all the domain name root servers.
Echelon is the grandchild of the UKUSA network that broke the German Enigma codes in WW2. Echelon actively spies on Russia, the EU, China, Japan, India, Indonesia, South Africa, Mexico and Fiji.
Echelon member nations are the USA, UK, Canada, Australia & New Zealand. Echelon members even spy on other members for those countries to get around laws against spying on their citizens.
Example, I am a person who is suspected of using military grade cryptography I have developed for internet banking. I am a Dual Citizen of Australia and New Zealand, so the Australian and New Zealand spies can't use Echelon on me. Instead, spies from the USA and the UK use Echelon to read my email, intercept my faxes and text-messages, see where I used my credit card or EFTPOS, listen into my phonecalls and trace the location of my cellphone.
These foreign spies do the monitering of me for the country I'm living in (perhaps they find out I post on slashdot and know what I like to buy at the supermarket.) They only have to tell my government what I do if it's of interest to them. (maybe they know how many hours I made love to my ex girlfriend and how many condoms I used)
Personally, I don't give a shit if they think they know what I'm thinking. I freely admit to being a libertarian capitalist who hates the idea of government intervention in the life of individuals. I might be a political risk to the Australian and New Zealand Governments because I believe in a democratic government with a Head of State whose election is by the people, not by a death in the english monarchy. I may even be a risk to my government even if my political beliefs are shared by a majority of citizens. America is the only member of Echelon where any idiot can run the nation if they get enough votes, the other Ecehlon nations are run by any idiot who is born in the right family. (Plese note this does not apply to the current president of america, who was born to the right family and won florida by family vote rigging)
I say the only way to overcome censorship is to give free speech to the people. Crisis in chinese is called danger-opportunity. I believe that we should give the chinese people the opportunity to change even if it is dangerous. What's better: a egalitarian life run by Big Brother and the Thought Police? or a place where you have the right to think and say what you want?
I'm programming Kaos, a rewritten BSD form the exokernel to the new GUI.
I use standard ways of working on things, the whole thing is able to evolve or be modified for your convienience.
Plus you can choose what theme or skin to use the system in.
I call my protocol Samizdat (see dictionary for meaning) it does far more than this .
Samizdat is a peer to peer network grid which uses military grade crypto with a layer of steganography on top to maintain the illusion of unencrypted Spam being sent.
This makes it undetectable to the censor and uses any random port which isn't blocked.
All the censor will see is make money quick scams, shakespeare or crap from slashdot's JonKatz. (exposing censors to JonKatz may be a form of torture)
Samizdat will be GNU free and able to be ported to any operating system , not just the Kaos system I'm creating from BSD and bits of linux.
Kaos hasn't finalised the config structure, but it'll be standard XML that ties in with the XML filesystem database and XML MIME database.
This will also work with the XML semantic web help system and wizards written in Java, Perl or Javascript.
I think Apple will ripoff me, not the other way.
I'm the one who has the more sophisticated technology and no legacy reasons to restrict what can be done.
I may come up with a new display layer, but in the meantime it will use X windows.
It has good XML config management, Java2 is the standard way to package applications.
Almost everything is a standard API, an exokernel uses the system as a collection of APIs that dynamically load at runtime.
The system will have web browsing built in as web APIs, HTML rendering APIs , etc...
Multimedia will support everything Quicktime 6 has and CD / DVD burning from a system API, utility and free (GNU) app.
This OS will use the existing BSD OS for compatibility and parts of linux which are worthwhile porting. The main obstacle to linux use is the GPL.
The new parts in Kaos are basically rewritten BSD, I'm changing the kernel to an exokernel and making a simpler GUI with a better interface.
I want to make it faster, more stable and more scalable than OS X.
The only professional help I've had was from Jef Raskin. But his ideas on an all text interface, getting rid of submenu mapping and no themes or skins were just irritating.
However, I'm glad I emailed him before I wasted my money on his book.
I see no reason why I should discuss improving unix, just because it's BSD, not Linux doesn't mean it's offtopic or pointless.
Incidently,I'm planning to make this OS the best system you can get, I'm even prepared to use some gnu parts where it's worthwhile.
If you don't want someone to make a better OS in 2 years than MS Farsite will be in 10 years, feel free stop me and my project.
What if someone gets a virus or worm on their microwave while they're cooking rice?
Yuck, I had a worse thought: what if your microwave ran windows and had a fatal error while cooking your dinner?
Press Control Alt Delete to recook your meal?
