I realize that Microsoft cannot control what 3rd party software does, but will Microsoft's applications and games run under a limited account, or will they still need Admin access?
This has nothing to do with Bush. Indeed, if Clinton was still in power and doing it, liberals would be yelling harder
Except you'd be yelling "Hooray" instead of "Throw the bum out". The Liberals have always been two-faced. To be fair, so are the Conservatives except that their faces are reversed.
The sad fact is, both Clinton and Bush have treated the Constitution like toilet paper, and they're both in the wrong.
Of course, the reason many people wouldn't get the joke is because they've never had an OSX crash. OTOH, I DID recognize the NT Blue Screen description.
Not only is there a lot of land (and sea) between us and most countries, but there is also a lot of land to conquer/destroy. There are 2 reasons why neither Napoleon nor Hitler could take Russia. One was the brutal winters, but the other was that it was too damn BIG! Likewise, even if a hostile power could land an army in North America, it would be a lot harder to conquer the US than it was to occupy Germany.
If you have an iPod, it's safer to get songs legally. If you play songs on a PC, it's safer to download questionable content from known criminals than it is to insert a legal Sony CD.
Once you get it, you pretty much never have to worry about it again.
That's the part that bothers me. I took my test about 20 years ago, and haven't had to do anything since. It seems to me that people should be re-tested on a regular basis. Written AND driving!
Well, I know back when I didn't have a car, I could walk from one end of the city to the other if I had enough time. I doubt that I'd do as well now. My mom, who doesn't have a car, can walk farther than most people MY age, let alone hers.
Why should the third-party developers fix Microsoft's mess? They know that everyone who buys a new computer will get a W95-like system with an "Owner" account, no password, and no hint that they should even create new accounts. Maybe 5% of those will add a password, and few of those might create extra accounts, which may or may not be limited. Plus, quite a few of those programs that won't run in limited accounts are FROM MICROSOFT!
I agree that devs have had half a decade to fix their crap, but MS has had half a decade to give the devs an incentive to fix their crap!
There is probably a "sweet spot" for the size of government. If it's too powerful, you'll get China. If it's too weak, the gangs take over. IMHO, the US government is too big and getting bigger. And it's controlled by the very businesses that it should be protecting us from.
It also depends on the specific program. I have a small Perl program that runs as is on Linux, OSX, and XP. It's portable. But I also remember having to tweak another Perl program between Linux and FreeBSD. A very small tweak, but still a tweak.
There are two stores in my neighborhood. One of them has a spycard, the other doesn't. Guess which one gets most of my business. And the prices are about the same. The spycard store jacks up their prices, then "lowers" the card items and claims they're saving you money.
In Soviet Russia, they shot anyone trying to leave the country. I don't know if they do that in China, but I wouldn't be surprised. Also, do they have any place to flee to? The refugees from Soviet Blok countries could run to Western Europe. If the US goes bad, we could flee to Canada (if we don't freeze to death). Is there any place a broke Chinese refugee could get to?

Will Vista have a watered-down Home version that has fewer security options than the Corporate version?
Will Vista default to an Admin account with no password?

Hmmm, I think I've figured out why the French don't like Google. :)

That means we need MORE global warming to hold off the the ice age! Light fires! Produce methane, or we'll all freeze!
I don't know about that, but after some of those meetings, I NEEDED medication!

And the fact that I own an iBook has no influence on my opinion.
When did that happen?
Doesn't it just create the attribute?

Same here! I want my rocket launchers to shoot out of my REAR end. It's easier to avoid the slow idiots ahead of me.

I think modern tech DOES make us soft.
Yeah, but if you don't brake quickly enough, something will break.
Not me. I just stuck my big foot out the door and stopped right then. Tore up a lot of shoes back then.

Thanx!

I'm a total n00b in Python, but I like what I see. I'm planning to rewrite a Perl program I have in Python.
My biggest gripe is that Python lacks a "use strict" to protect me from my own badd speling.
