    Hmm ... I thought that is how humans operated for thousands of years ... you pay for my product which you can then use to create your own offering and try to sell it to others.
    I mean, it worked well for hundreds of generations but what do I know .... obviously you have a better model.

    Have you ever thought about how in the world TrollTech folks can make their living without charging for their fine product ?

    1. Writing debuggers is NOT what 99.99% developers do when programming for Windows.

    2. I never said nobody uses pipes on Windows. I said , compared to other IPC mechanism, pipes are not what one would call "popular technique".

    True, but only if you are trying to force solution using your learned Unix "tricks".
    There are ways to get Windows to do almost anything that Unix does, and do it as efficiently and elegantly as Unix, but more often than not it requires completely different approach.

    1-4 Almost nobody uses pipes on Windows.
    5. Windows has semaphores, shm, messages and sockets.

    That is stupid.
    He should have set Windows buffer to something more reasonable like 64 or 128K and have it run against Linux 4k-blocking version ( single threaded.)
    Anyway, it does appear that Linux is generally faster when blasting stuff thru pipes.

    Heh, it is true ...
    US is a place where corporations go to incredible lengths to protect themselves from lawsuits or community protests (which more often than not includes pacifying protesters/local communities with some perks etc)
    Frankly, look at J. Jackson and his incredibly successful blackmailing actions against various commercial entities.
    Where else in the world you can successfully sue corporations for personal mistakes of its employees or blame companies for your own stupidity ?
    But of course, it does not fit into your view of US so it can't be true...

    So , are you saying that PC as a platform would be in much better shape if IBM never did allow people to make clones ?
    Apple platform ( not company) is where it is ( scraping for measly few percent of the market) because of their stupid policies which result in overpriced and purely hype (coolness) driven systems.
    I looked at buying one of recent Macs for my son and, hell, they are simply not offering anything unique above your average PC while costing almost twice as much.
    It simply doesn't make sense to buy Mac, unless you want to be different just for the sake of being different.

    Windows took over because was it available for cheap commodity hardware and NOT because it took some ideas from that overpriced piece of garbage from Apple.
    Anyway, right until 10.x Apple was still operating more-less like Win 3.11.
