  1. Re:Do they mention 42 in the movie? YES on Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Trailer · · Score: 1

Forget the movie, every trailer so far has mentioned 42 in some way. In case you missed it, re-watch the teaser trailer and look at the cluster of stars in the upper left hand corner at the end.

  2. Re:Any good tutorials? on Settlers of Catan Online Now Available · · Score: 1

Download the demo of Settlers from MSN and there is a flash Tutorial which will help you learn how to play. I think there may also be a writeup at the s3dconnector.com.

  3. Just a clarification on Settlers of Catan Online Now Available · · Score: 4, Informative

After downloading the online version of the game and playing with it a bit I just wanted to clear up my statement above. First, the free download is for a demo version of the game which will time out after 60 minutes of play. The full version of the game is $30USD which allows you to play offline anytime, save games in progress, and play against computer players (up to 4) and other people on the same machine.

What looks to be sorely missing from this is the online component of the game promised in the original press release. Half of the reason I was excited about this was to challenge people online when my friends got tired of me pestering them to play. Hopefully that will follow soon.

  4. Just thinking of options on Automakers Working on Car-to-Car Ad-Hoc Networks · · Score: 1

OK, some of this could be just down-right cool. GPSs that talk to each other and warn the drive of impending crashes (within 100 feet of each other of course), sharing weather data between cars (Suzie's Matrix says the outside temp is 5 Degrees), not to mention all the other statistics that higher end German cars collect. On the other hand, you know that in-car text messaging will become the new fad of the '10s.

  5. Saphire doesn't really cool anything on Sapphire: A Liquid That Won't Get Things Wet · · Score: 1

From Tyco's Press Release, "The SAPPHIRE Suppression System chemically interferes with the fire combustion process, therefore bringing it to a halt." The side effect would be a reduction of flames and heat but it's primary purpose is not to draw heat away from a fire. It is to stop the fire from continuing to combust. That's why electronics submerged int he fluid would still work. You aren't damaging the components with a heat reducing element, you are bathing them in a combustion stopping element. Tv's don't tend to combust from what I rememebr. :)

  6. Hundres of Lawsuits + Lack of sales = ? on RIAA To Sue Hundreds Of File Swappers · · Score: 1

It seems to me that even if the RIAA hires "el-cheapo" lawyer to carry this out that it has to hit their pocket book eventually. Especially when they claim that sales are in a slump because of p2p sharing. Hundreds of lawsuits isn't going to stop people from swapping songs; millions of lawsuits might. But if they are getting decreasing funds year after year while having to increase the number of lawsuits to reduce the fileswapping there must come a time when it just isn't financially feasable for them to continue on this course of action.

I agree that the RIAA should go after the people individually but I have issue when it comes to what the copywright entails. Hopefully someone can clear this up for me. In my belief, when I bought an album on vinal in 1980, I bought the right to listen to that album and transfer it to another medium; like audio tape. Now that MP3s have come along, I believe I should be able to download the same songs I have on vinal because I purchased the rights to listen to it a while ago. If I threw away the album, I would throw away my rights to listen to them.

Basically, I do not agree with the RIAA's practice of saying if you bought the album on vinal and you want it on CD, you have to pay us again and a higher price this time for it on the new medium. I should be able to buy the rights to a song and be done with it no matter what medium I want it on. If that means I have to surender one medium for another (say send back the vinal to get a CD) I am ok with that.
