  1. Quarantine P2P Appz on P2P Programs on K-12 Networks? · · Score: 0

If the school is running AV software (NT kernels), as any good school should, you can set your respective AV software to QUARANTINE files with certain names. Such as "morpheus.exe", or "grokster.exe".

Its Quarantine, the perpetrator CANT delete it, (assuming privledges are set up so users have no power, and why should they really?), Now you have a file with his/her name attached to it. And it cant be run either. Just make sure that EVERY file that enters the system gets scanned immediatly.

If you are on 9x, dont waste your time. install NT based OS's, or Linux. Most kids wont know what to do with linux....

Im not sure that hibernate is what is wanted.
All that does is make all your apps still run. and the apps may not be actually DOING anything.

Freezing every calculation, right down to waht was in RAM, at that very moment....i dont know. might be a little difficult. or not? we have been able to freeze and thaw light for godsakes..

  4. Wtf? on CD Copy Protection Head Speaks · · Score: 0

Okay, CD, is all a one or a zero, nothing more, nothing less. *ANY* software designed to read a cd in RAW mode will be able to pick up the individual tracks, and rip them to HDD.

They missed a vital point. Only *ONE* person has to do this, and the mp3's will spread faster than locusts. Becuase the average Joe wont even know of copy protection on cds, will still look for his songs he wants online.

Its not like hes gonna found out its copy protected and think, "Oh, looks like Ill have to buy the cd now". MP3's brought in a NEW way of listening, distributing music. Enforcement of OLD copy protection on NEW methods is NOT going to work.

    My 2 cents.

Hmm. Realtime rendering thru a GPU. Which means the the programmers who make the game/movie are going to have to work WITH the board manufacturers, and also imply that there would be only ONE 3D card company, because it will be geared to that board and taking advantage of hwat that card offers. Maybe we'll see it go the way of Intel/AMD? Intel is 100% X86 arcitecture.(duuhhh), with AMD being 99.9% compatible. However, CPU's and GPU's are wildly different, so i doubt that will happen.

    My .02

  7. That be wicked on NASA Developing Space Droids · · Score: 1
yes, the addition of a plethora of pretty lights would make it a neat home-user addition. These things need to be sold to ppl who really need em, like the average Joe Schmoe Couch Potatoe. Astronauts are incredible fit ppl. why do they need it? They have to werk in zero-g! how effortless is that?!?!? On another note, this may increase in a sudden rise in the couch potatoe populace. So it may not be a good idea to sell it out.

    just my worthless .02

  8. Why? on Solar Sail Fails Again · · Score: 1
NASA engineers have worked for years on solar sail technology, which they theorize could make interstellar travel possible.

Why do we need interstellar travel? Dont we have enough problems here to fix? Is this a Microsoft thing? To "fix" it, just wipe the slate and start over? (refering to fixing Win installs by re-installing)

Aside from that, space travel would be pretty damn nifty.
