OK Trump supporters, if you think Google is in with every other media outlet, but Fox, and rigged against you, PLEASE, build your own search engine. Rig it however you want. If you are so paranoid and delusional that you think algorithms are against your cause and refuse to consider that maybe just the majority of the world doesn't like or respect your president, then put that energy to good use and show us how it is done.
I personally look forward to the upcoming war between the Trump administration and the tech establishment. I think the Trump base has no idea who they are messing with or who holds the real power if they want to go to war with Google, Apple, and Amazon.
I respectfully disagree. UBI won't change my life. I'm still going to work. However, I work for a company that sells goods and services to other businesses that deal with all walks for life from the.01% to the poorest. By giving my customer's customers more money in their pocket, it all comes back to me in the form of higher wages, higher profitability, and better returns on my stock options.
This is stimulating the economy on the low end. As someone who is a productive member of society, this benefits me in the form of my company's profitability selling goods and services. As an added bonus, there is less incentive for the poorest to commit crime. The homeless, destitute, and drug addicted can afford to get treatment and stop harassing me on the street and scaring my small children. There are less evictions, less repossessions and the economy becomes much smoother. A bolstered middle class benefits everyone in the short term, medium term, and long term.
I will happily pay more taxes for higher wages, less suffering of the poor, less fear of my kids being a victim of violent crime. I'm not even sure UBI would raise my taxes substantially, but I am happy to give it a try. One thing is clear, the current system is failing, income inequality is getting depressingly worse, and while I have a good job, life is getting worse every year for all those around me. I see no future on our current path. I think a well implemented UBI program will protect the masses from the job losses that are coming due to automation and ensure a healthy flow of income to buy goods and services and keep our economy running smoothly. I want people to be able to afford my company's products.
To me, UBI is not a charity program, but an investment that looks like an inevitability.
NEED and want are 2 different phenomena. I can find plenty of jerks who will tell me that all you need is an iPhone. I am confident a lot of people WANT a 50mm f 0.95 lens and would be happy to pay whatever Nikon asks.
I use a full frame DSLR with nice Sigma Art Prime Lenses because I WANT to take nice photos. This is not directly relevant because I am a Canon guy, but when they release their full frame mirrorless body later this year, if they offer a f 0.95 lens, I will be very interested. I take a lot of photos at f 1.4 now at dusk of my children playing when I get home from work. If it was sharp at f 0.95, I would be very intrigued by what it could offer. Also, I live in New England. Our days are shorter than a lot of the country and light is scarce when we're not working, so while you are right that we don't NEED a lens that fast, I would happily pay for one to get lower ISO photos in dim light (assuming it is actually sharp and usable at f 0.95. Sigma Art lenses are sharp wide-open, but lot of Canon lenses need to be stepped down for maximum sharpness).
I would guess people who have significant investment in Nikon lenses care. However, why do you feel the need to put them down? Leicas are far from mainstream and I have never seen a professional use them. However, if you enjoy Leica or Sony, enjoy. Maybe having extra competition will inspire them to produce better cameras or lower their prices. I have no plans on every buying this body, but competition is good for everyone.
Your comment shows that you really have no understanding of photography and I will bet money you take terrible photographs. Most people graduate from smartphones to DSLRs or mirrorless cameras once they have something in their life worth photographing.
Find a moderately competent photographer and compare the results from any modern professional DSLR to any smartphone and you'll see a huge difference. There's a reason professional photographers don't show up to a wedding with just an iPhone.
Simply put, your photos are visibly not as good as they could be, but I suppose you make up for it in the satisfaction you feel in your smugness. Saying that "now that you have a smartphone, who cares about a real camera?" is about as intelligent as saying "now that we have rideshare electric scooters, why does anyone use cars?"
A lot of us enjoy taking photos that look much better than yours. This announcement is not for you, but for Nikon shooters, it is an exciting glimpse into the future of the tools we use for taking nice photos.
