I just find a bunch of journalists talking about a nameless paper that's online in the Climate Change journal. It would be nice to be able to actually RTFA.
It's not the temperature of the CPU that I think is the issue. It's the amount of energy stored in the battery. A Lithium Ion battery has an energy density that is less than an order of magnitude from that of TNT!
So, if your battery weighs two pounds, you have the potential energy of roughly a third pound of TNT -- more than enough to cause some serious damage.
I for one don't want to be killed by keyboard shrapnel!
Actually, for orbital flights, it IS better to be closer to the equator. At the equator the earth's rotation adds a free 1,000 mph to the launch velocity. Boeing and a Russian firm actually launch rockets from a platform in the middle of the Pacific for just this reason.
Thus companies already have a great reason to relocate launch facilities further south. Making it difficult to obtain launch permission just adds another reason to ship more jobs out of the country.
To be legally be an engineer with all the perks you have to pass the Professional Engineer (PE) exam after having passed the Engineer In Training (EIT)exam. As you must be enrolled in an ABET (forgot what it stands for) accredited 4-year engineering program to take the EIT, programmers without engineering degrees can not legally be engineers.
Some companies, Motorola comes to mind, won't even let you use Engineer on your business card if you haven't passed the exam.
So from a legal standpoint, programmers aren't engineers.

Can someone explain what exactly Quake 4 is?
Doom 3 isn't even finished yet. Are they already working on the next game? Are both gaming lines (Quake and Doom) going to extend into the future?
Info, please.
