  1. The reason why they do that ... on French Senator Proposes Requiring Open Source · · Score: 2
The senate is otherall a useless, deprecated institution. That's usually where retiring politician end their carriers. They have'nt got much power -- besides delaying the passing of a bill. For example, as the bloody conservatives they are, they delayed the PACS, a bill for a sort of 'gay marriage', so it adopting it took over a year instead of a few months. But the bill passed anyway.

So what happens is that they're fighting to pretend to serve some purpose. The head of the chamber (what's his face gain?) is using his net presence to look branché (wired), and at least more branché than the other side of the parliament.

Actually, they're rather succesful at that: they had their website way before other gov't institution.

Then, all cynicism aside, the fact that they don't have much real power does'nt mean that this is useless. They can at least challenge the gov't to do something ...

The principle of patents and copyright are both based on the idea that protecting ideas and creation will lead to more production of those.

In this great example, we see perfectly well that nothing good is achieved other a non-patentable world: the research is taking place through the Human Genome Project ANYWAY, and those "fine" people are just trying to steal a piece of the cake.

Just as open source software shows that IP isn't THAT necessary to innovation and development.

Their compilers, as I've used them a while ago on Mac are good, but their main force is that they seem to be (used to be at least) a company that listens to their customers. Hey, can you imagine that? You can actually REQUEST a functionality and expect it to be present in the next releases!

Not open source by far, but with them you don't usually endure the usual pain of closed source software.

I don't like christians means that I don't like the fact that people have the christian belief (muslim being worse in my book). Now, I can appreciate christians for other reasons. Just like I don't like football fans. As long as they don't bother me with their football, I don't mind. There is a huge difference in saying 'I don't like (jews|niggers)': being a hew is (99%) an inherited trait, something that people don't choose, and it means more than just a religion. By what "Jew" usually means, I could as well be considered a catholic.
