    I've been wondering if certain groups really are skeptical on whether or not AGW is occurring wouldn't it make sense to increase the climate budget in order be sure? Yet these people want to decrease funding which leads to never knowing for sure. Its as if you doctor tells you he is not sure whether you have cancer but he does not want to perform any tests since it will cost money to find out.

    There are a few groups who take AGW into consideration such as insurance companies and the military.

    I'm sure they can find someone or something to blame, after all they were able to blame the loss of coal mining jobs to environmental regulations even though cheap natural gas was the real culprit.

  8. Funny enough, trains haul way more coal than anything else. Also, oil can't be compared with coal as the former is used almost exclusively for transport while the latter is used for electricity generation.

    Looking at the bigger picture, the economic picture, what these Trump supporters did, I am assuming they are not 1%ers, is to cut off their nose to spite their face. Trump's tax plan favors the rich at the expense of the poor and middle class. His tariffs will make goods much more expensive which will hit the poor and middle far more than the rich. Also, didn't he say he could shoot someone and still have supporters. If I were Republican I would consider that insulting.

    There are more electric cars being sold in China than in the US. It won't help much to reduce their smog but China wants to be a world leader in electric car production like they are in solar panels, wind turbines, nuclear power, supercomputers, etc.

  12. How long did these warming/cooling cycles take to warm/cool the planet? Thousands of years? Millions of years? What is the warming rate now? When did humans start burning carbon which was sequestered millions of years ago? Has that rate increased or decreased and by how much?

    We in the West are going to be fine, sure we will probably end up paying more for food and water but that is nothing we can't handle. It is the 3rd world that will be hit the hardest, the ones who can least afford it, but then when have we ever cared about them?

  14. Why not treat this as insurance? People pay insurance all the time and you don't (usually) hear them complain about it e.g. you don't hear people say I payed all this insurance and my house didn't even burn down, what a waste of money.

  15. I wonder how Trump would have reacted if he were currently President and Duterte made those comments at him, like calling him a son of a whore, etc. I know he is fond of threatening people with lawsuits in civilian life, as President he would have more powerful weapons at his disposal.

    Are you referring to the poor in the 3rd world? They have more kids because they have no social security. The idea is their children will support them financially in their old age. Plus if they own a farm or business they are free labor.

    You make a valid argument. In my utility bills there is a fee for providing poor people with electricity and gas. I believe there is a similar fee on my cell phone bill.

    That is interesting because I thought deforestation was a big problem in Africa like it is in South America particularly Brazil.

    Here in SoCal winters used to be colder around 20 to 25 years ago. You could not go outside without a jacket or at least a sweater. There was frost on the grass, on rooftops and my windshield used to ice up frequently. These last few years I can get away with wearing a t-shirt and shorts. My jackets and sweaters have been gathering dust in my closet as I have not needed them for years.

    These companies have invested a great deal of money in developing the carbon industry, it is only natural they want to maintain the status quo.
