  1. What unreleased recordings? These Trump conversations...

I believe I saw plenty of news that Stern refused requests to release his recordings of these public broadcasts. I saw no reports that anyone, anywhere, had any copies available for journalistic review (in the new context of a presidential campaign).

If you or anyone can provide links to an archive of the audio that I and other journalists can analyze, then I will agree that there are no 'unreleased recordings'.

  2. The FCC could pass regulations that will be invalidated upon Trump's inauguration, or they could avoid wasting everyone's time and do this. They took the cost-cutting choice.

Getting intelligent and important ideas on the public record, even if 'invalidated' by Trump, is not at all necessarily a "waste of everyone's time". But apparently they didn't evaluate their ideas that highly.

  3. Why is that modded "funny"? Would be the most rational appointment T's made

The sad part is considering how powerful Stern is with his unreleased recordings of Trump. (that apparently no other Stern listener bothered to record and release to journalists during the campaign). Seriously, Stern has some mondo fucking leverage.

You can "legislate it" if Verizon/Comcast/ATT all required that only "approved" devices are allowed on their network. Most corporations do that already for their internal networks (if they are concerned about security). You don't think that can happen? It will eventually. It sounds like most people here are OK with it too.

Read your Verizon/Comcast/ATT terms of service and acceptable use policies. This is already in place. Sure it blatantly contradicts all the flowery language the FCC uses to talk about network neutrality. Oh well, whatever.

100% correct. But that is where we are headed. Enjoy your locked down Internet, people! You deserve it.

No, it's more like "if the government outlaws guns, only the outlaws will have guns". The DDoS zombie masters will route around the damage. Those people already spent way more IQ point-hours on the subject than the government ever will.

Let me be the first to predict- that fairly shortly after any such agency claims to have a policy that will 'fix' the IoT problems, we will see the exact same problems bubble up. Then we will see a cat and mouse game that, if my speculation is correct, will make this new hypothetical government agency the butt of many jokes.

    More accurately [with my additions]-

It creates a self-censorship environment [on/within Twitter(tm)], which is arguably worse than a clear censorship environment [on/within Twitter(tm)].

I think it's a very important nuance, at least until the feds go anti-trust on Twitter because there are no realistic alternatives in the 'free market'.

If telephones are outlawed, then only outlaws will have telephones.

Further to your point- If home email servers are outlawed, then only outlaws will have home email servers. If home irc servers are outlawed, then only outlaws will have home irc servers. If home web servers are outlawed, then only outlaws will have home webservers.

I'm *still* waiting for Snowden to give some thoughtful, educating, and insightful commentary expanding on his words that "yes, Hillary's email server is a problem".

Trump's strategy appears to be "how can I fuck up the country as badly as possible?"

Bullshit. If you want to actually use your brain, start with a vision of Tyr Anasazi from Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda.

  9. By your definition, any source leaking material to any journalist *is* illicit spying. Your definition however is wrong.
