  1. Anyone *not* suggesting both employees and the H-1b visa system are being played simply isn't paying attention - or doesn't want the cheap labor stream to end.

  2. Oracle has long-since given up competing on performance, innovation or even on price. They no sue their competitors, customers and innocent bystanders anytime Uncle Larry needs to buy a new island. If there was ever a case for the public to censure a company for its actions by actively refusing to use it's products, surely Oracle has earned that. To those companies still in the Oracle camp, you lie down with dogs, don't complain about fleas.

  3. Want to see what UBI looks like, take the examples of the UAE and US Indian reservations. In one case, it builds dependency on oil wealth, in the other just dependency of the government. In neither case is it something humans were built for - we evolved as wild predators, not as crops.

In this age of near-universal Internet access, all scholarly research should be online - and free.

  10. Toilets on Slashdot Asks: Is Paperless Office a Dream? (betanews.com) · · Score: 1

  11. What's really needed.. on Schneier: We Need a New Agency For IoT Security (onthewire.io) · · Score: 1

No, what we need is a new law requiring IOT companies to be liable for the costs of repairing the damage their devices cause, from DDOS to identity theft. Too much of this crap is flooding in and folks have no idea how dangerous it is.
