I would like to see the document window keep focus, the only problem i've had with the interface is when i forget to click on the document window after selecting a different tool.
of course i don't know how easy this is, and it hasn't stopped me from using the gimp as my primary raster program.. so all in all keep up the good work.
H2G2 is the name Adams used for the Hitchikers website (h2g2.com) now owned by the BBC. That was the first I heard of it, but I think it's pretty common now.
How bout the same X session and two cursors?

I think it would be really cool to run two seperate mice and keyboards on one X session.. that would make debugging with a coworker a breeze! Has anyone seen anything like this done? Kind of like timbuck2 or VNC, but on one local machine with two cursors.
My roomate (not a computer user) started playing around with gnome the other day, and before you know it was using mozilla, star office and a slew of games without the slightest bit of coaxing or help from me.
In my opinion the main problem with linux being accepted is the average persons fear of change/the unknown.
I believe OpenOffice is using XML as thier standard document format. You could use it as your office suite, and just save off as a MS word doc when you need to deliver to a client (That's if MS word is not already supporting XML, XSLT)
It's also good to point out that while HTML is a mark up language and therefore good at displaying data that XML will be displayed using XSL, Similar to the way HTML can be displayed using CSS.
One of my strongest arguments agianst flash has always been it's accesibility. Stick somone with a vision problemn in front of a flash file and what do you have? Someone who can't see your site.
And now with the increasing demand for handheld, cellphone, web-appliance access Flash is almost a pure hindrance. sure it can be keen to watch things fly around the screen, but how often do you visit your favorite flash site versus something like Slashdot? Content rules the web.
Good point, I tend to forget about the Newton. Any word on Apples latest handheld efforts? I seem to remember them licensing the Palm O.S. for some reason.
I disagree strongly, I find it hard to draw even the slightest comparison between the Palm OS and win CE. Palm did a great job of engineering its operating system from the ground up specifically for handheld devices. They also were the ones who brought the palmtop device to the market.
If anything I would say Win CE was the "me too" in this case.
I have generally found calibrating my monitor to be a waste of time since in order for it to be trully effective everyone's monitor must be calibrated the same. Instead I really on color swatches such as the ones you can get from pantone. they give you a real world representation of a color so you know what it will look like in print, and they usually hold up pretty well across monitors.
Everyones so obsessed with who won the browser war and which is a better browser, in my opinion people will continue to use alternative browsers as long as they exist, which is why we need a push for standards compliance.
Why should anyone care how quickly the browser they aren't using is loading a page or how often it is crashing? The only thing that should matter is how well it renders pages designed for the world wide web.
End users will continue to use Internet explorer, I-cab, Oprera, Lynx, Galeon etc... and as long as they all support seperate standards the jobs of all us people designing for the web will become more of a pain. As it stands only Mozilla and I.E. 5.5 for the mac even come close. So let's at least give them kudos for working towards a common goal.
while trying to access the survey from inside our corprate intranet i got this

I'm a big fan of thrill jockey, they have titles by bands such as Tortoise, Trans Am, Isotope 217, the Sea and Cake, etc. It's a small Chicago label that to the best of my knowledge has no affiliation with the RIAA.
John Hughes the third Used a dot matrix printer for percussion and ambience on his band Bill 'Ding's Trust in god, but tie up your camel' Cd. The concept has always intrigued me. it's great to see the concept expanded upon. next step?
Actually I'm of the opinion that the learning curve is only steeper for Photoshop users who are switching.
I think both interfaces are lacking the big hurdle is only moving from one to the other (which i do daily)
I better stop driving with passengers!

Somebody mod this up... It's important that we all try and work on this. Imagine what's next..

I believe government websites should follow usability and accesability rules rather strictly.
.gov sites.
;)
First off common interface should be devised for all
Force all sites to use em for font sizes, black on grey or black and white sites, minimal graphics, and a common navigation scheme.
All Documents should degrade gracefully and allow users on any platform or browser to access them.
Actually they should all look like USEIT.com

does that mean you don't mind if someone steals your copywrite? I believe independant labels copywrite thier materials as well.
I guess what I'm saying is how happy do you think these small labels are going to be to have a bunch of music pirating geeks supporting them now?

so i think we should rename a gnutella archive gnutella.mp3 and start transfering it via napster. get the most out of the last couple hours..
