ok, so someone has to ask this:

tell me when the hell did kernel 7.3 come out, when 2.2.16 was just released a day or so ago!?

  3. Re:Computer Renassaince (sp?) on What Do You Do With Old Computer Parts? · · Score: 1

first off, remember Computer Renaissance (correct spelling) is a franchise type store. so not all stores will be selling stuff at the same price. The one in my city sells new floppy drives for 20 bucks and used ones around 12 bucks. they also sell some nice systems.. for the general comsumer than aint that much in price.. 1ghz tbird 128meg ram 30gig hard drive for under 800$.

as for then buying back items, the one here goes by the computer version of the automobile Blue Book. and looking in it, most stuff loses half their value right after its been purchased.

though, you should complain about those floppy drive prices, that is a rip off, especially if they're used.

i personally havent been very impressed with anything US Manga has released. ADV seems to be doing better.. or maybe they're just getting the better animes before US Manga.

  5. Re:Where is the proof ? on Solution To DoS Attacks · · Score: 1

you want proof? try IRC once in a while. EFNet is *constantly* being DoS'd. these packet kiddies do this to the irc servers so they will delink and they can rape a channel. lots, and i mean lots, of efnet servers have died and/or delinked forever from efnet due to DoS.

it may sound petty, but something someone needs to start doing is advertising the fact DoS'ing *does* effect more than just the attacker and victim. its really all about educating the kiddies before they find the point-click apps for doing this stuff. make them aware there is more out there and better alternatives to destruction.

your "8a" is kinda flawed. From what i understand most european nations have to pay per each local call. where here in the US we pay a flat monthly rate for unlimited local calls/length of call. So its really just like the ISP business, they are not making money this way. They have to find other ways to profit, and i dont know many people (including people on irc) who regularly call long distance anyhow. So this is to be expected.

  7. Re:what Linux fiasco? on Napster Server Protocol Has Been Published · · Score: 1

sorry dude, this was no fiasco. no force was used to prevent it. the very first one to popup napster and a few other napster officials asked him politely in an irc channel to with-hold the source until a later date. [with-holding personal comments] he did not understand, and failed to comply with reasoning.

so we moved on. to us in #napster we just dont care about them, since some have written their own private clients or are happy with the "official" clients.

The point is, MS would have never gotten where it is today without marketing. which all Bill Gates is a salesman. He was able to promote a faulty product to millions of people and to make ludicris contracts in his favor with other companies.

... at least you can shutdown a PC using an ATX if the OS didnt properly shut down (unlike Mac'ntrash).

On to my reason for the post:
My Motherboard (Epox ep-58mvp3c-m (AT & ATX power supply compatible)) has a jumper setting for, if you have an atx power supply, will enable a "keyboard power-on" feature, allowing you to press *any* key on the keyboard for a few seconds to turn the system on.

The only annoyance to me about atx is that to turn the computer off (via the power button) you have to press the button for ~4seconds. if less than that it only reboots the computer.

ok, since you didnt leave an e-mail address, i hope you read this.

The way that i understood the page was that, if you used a "device" for cheating on a game or playing ROMs you didnt make will void the warrenty. But, if you make a copy of a game that is illegal, since (i belive) cause the author never gave consent (i may be wrong, dont flame me).

i know that it may sound a bit contradictory, but you gotta clear your mind and read carefully to understand.

Loop holes are a bitch arent they ?

Lets get back to the base, where the roms that are used. If anyone takes the time to read that 1 page in or near the back of every Nintendo manual, it states that you WARRENTY (nothing else) is VOID if you use a rom copier and do any type of mod to the console system. It only states that copying a game is illegal.

And come on people, Nintendo games are `carts` they can not easily be damaged like CDs, meaning there is NO NEED what so ever for a back-up. if the cart if damaged it can only be your fault or by negligence.

i pretty much agree here. they should be testing lower end systems too (i.e. non-server systems). i run a k6-II 300MHz with 64MB of PC100 SDRAM. i run both win95 and RH5.2, win95 is CONSTANTLY crashing and running out of memory and i have to reboot it about 3-4 times a DAY! while i have yet to have any problems with linux.

A good test for them to run would be to see how many programs the OS can handle at one time before it crashes. i run at minimum 9 programs at one time, and thats just when i'm not using my computer, windows95b just can not handle my work load. -- just a thought though.
