Here unemployment only takes effect AFTER you are "offically" laid off. As of yet there are no "official" layoffs. And unemployment is typically 1/2 or less of what you made. Sometimes keeps you off the streets, and the electricity turned on.
If the company bankrupts you're fscked. Forget any back salary. The corp BK's and the management runs off to the next corporation to rape and pilfer.
To screw up this badly and do something this stupid. I can just see the dumb polock joke in this story [I'm Polish-ski so I can say that!]
Gee, let's value your Yugo at the price of a Ferrari. Only in Poland.
I suppose the Polock Tax people don't understand the principle of FREE do they as in FREEDOM, which is probably the same fella that assessed Moscow taxes under the Communist regime from the old CCCP.
Or pay Sony to make a radio that ONLY receives Infinity Broadcasting stations. Just like the cable modems that only connect to AT&T cable. Let's see how this one plays out if AT&T not only control your access - but your CONTENT too!! Beware Ma Bell!
I don't know which NW IL city you're in but here in "Central" IL as you know it's lots of wide spots in roads. My father in law ran for sheriff here 3 times - the sheriff in power used the media to lie about his record for political gain. Police/Sheriffs and SA's in my opinion use high profile (even low profile for that matter) cases for political gain. Notice how the amount of drug busts and arrests increase in the year before election? IMHO the Supreme Court is on the right frame of mind only a bit off kilter of the extent of the issuance of the ethics canon by leaving interpretation of the canon up to the judicial circuits. I am *not* anti-police by any means. I just don't agree with the tactics of some SA's and sheriffs case in point DuPage Co. with the Rolando Cruz case. They almost had him pernamently hushed for something that it turns out he didn't do. All so the SA would get reelected. Email me if you would like to debate this further. pcdoctor@gocubs.com
That is why Winmodems aren't ported to *nix. Porprietary software that controls the chips (whether its Lucent or ConexantRockwell or even 3Com's Winmodem version) - In my testing so far WInmodems are OK but you have to have nearly perfect telco lines for them to work properly. I get 10 K better on my 3Com as opposed to my Lucent. Read my postings in comp.dcom.telecom.tech for my testing of modems with GTE soon to be Bell Atlantic
I ended up marrying my online romance - we met when the internet was still text - HTML what's that? on bbs.isca.uiowa.edu actually. I'm not on there anymore but it was interesting - long distance and computer. Phone bills were still high though:(
I'm right in the middle of the censorship issue. The owners (my in-laws) do not censor sites as a general rule BUT if we were losing business because of porn sites blocking our "clean" customers from being seen there is a problem. I'm all for client web content monitoring and it's not up to us ISP's or (gawd help us) the Government (Australian or US) to determine what we put out there for someone to view. On the other hand if I lose 10 paying customers due to 2 customers that publish porn, limiting content makes good business sense on the ISP's part.
My advice: Dump the blocked ISP/WPP/web server and find one that is not on the Cyber Patrol block list.
Now you of all people know when freedoms are eroded. Your precious Fuhrer was a specialist at taking away freedoms. About 6 million. What's the first thing Die Fuhrer did? Took away the people's defense (firearms) Then he took away freedom. Then it administered what he called Final Solution. Comrade Clinton and other Commie bastards (Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley et al) are now instead of respecting our constitution and attempting amendments that would be sure to fail (i.e. overturning 2nd Amendment) are using tort to drive holes into it. If the firearm mfr's lose their court fight then I'd like to see S&W et al WITHHOLD firearms and ammo from Chicago - INCLUDING REFUSING TO ARM THE POLICE! That would wake up a few people when unarmed cops get shot up.
When you refer to not publishing the content about/jp - in general or on the Harvard server? If you meant in General then there's a bigtime problem. It's like the Mindspring vs. Anti-Abortion guy - he can post what he wants - Mindspring can control what is on their 'net. I want some limits on what my subscribers put on their web pages. No porn. No drugs. Anything else is fair game. The anti-abortion guy did right for the 'net - he forked over the $$$ and got his own connection to his own server. That way HIM and only HIM is responsible for the content. Nobody so far has (or will) held any carrier responsible for content. That's about like holding the post office liable because inside that brown wrapper was a Penthouse mag. If I had the bandwidth and hard drive space I'd offer to host his site. Except I use NT for my web server.
Not necessairly. Aren't the netwroks scrambled with VideoCipher (VC1?) with no availability to the general public? at least a couple years ago it was - that's when my folks cut down the C-Band dish and went on cable.

As an ISP myself we are 56K (record connect so far is 51.2k) - IMHO the telco makes a big difference in how well your modem works. 100 feet from the CO we get about 48k. 1 1/2 miles from the CO gets usually 49-50k. We're stuck with GTE and if you look at the poles and lines they're spliced, diced, and held together with bailing wire. Call them to clean it up - they say "yeah right - do you get dialtone?" GTE claims they don't make enough to cover expenses in rural areas like this. Hmm..when every call costs $.04 to make and then any call (supposedly local) outside our exchange costs as much as long distance. Hmmmm...
I run a small ISP with less bandwidth than Rob has (1/3 of a T1) and my web pages slug around a bit when I have a full rack of 24 users signed in./. kicks for what he has resources to put into it. Mastercard only goes so far:) I have 2 servers side by side - my "main" web server runs NT with IIS (PII 233 with 64 MB RAM)(http://www.main1.net and all sites that host on our advertising banner) This server is the reason I was dragged kicking and screaming into this "damned cryptic command line gibberish operating system that can't work because it's only $40" called Linux (Red Hat to be exact). http://home.main1.net is on a pentium 120 with 16MB of RAM, Linux 5.2 with Apache. Which would crash first on a heavy load? Don't know - both have light load (and the linux box has little on it for web pages) Which do I like to use now? NT only because I use Windows on a "every waking hour" basis and when I'm not using Windows I'm using a Mac. Which am I sold on as being "sturdier"? Linux. Every little change I make to the NT server seems to require a reboot. Linux I added a doohickey to sendmail to weed out Melissa and it only need a kill/HUP -3xp or whatever that command was on my cheat sheet that I typed in an it somehow worked. And NO reboot either!

Looks like their hosting provider yanked the site. Bastards!

I wonder how SpamCop is able to extract the phoney origins from the "genuine" ones?
Now if the Network Admin *is* the spammer then I think DoS is in order no?
