I couldn't agree more. I think the idea and goal are admirable, but wouldn't you have more "success" if you setup a WikiWiki and let people contribute patterns as they find them? Forget the prizes, leverage the stuff the internet is good for. Dont get 1 preson to submit 100 patterns, get 100 people to submit 2. I hope it works out for them.
I had a similiar expierence myself. Other than the nasty PC Friendly stuff I had no problems on my NT boxen with my second generation Toshiba DVD drive and my Hollywood 98 decoder card. On my G3, nothing at all. Luckly some other kind patron has all ready posted the fix for that.
Recently a friend turned me on to Christopher Alexander's "Timeless Way of Building". If you liked "The Programmers' Stone" I suggest you take a look at it.
I love CivII, and was eagerly awaiting Civ:CTP. Civ:CTP adds some great stuff, but I am sad to say it did not live up to my expectations. I signed up as a beta tester, but was not choosen. I sure wish I could have given some feedback.
