Not that I am any different, but I must admit, Slashdotters (and any linux zealots for that matter) can argue over anything!! The bottom line is (and most people agree), is that cable will most often beat DSL in uncongested areas.
But will this stop us slashdotters from vigourously arguing this matter?? HELL NO:) !!!!! We can argue this matter well into next week, next month if that is what its gonna take!!
And not only will we argue, we will zealously defend our choice to the death!! We will close our minds, opening it up only to those who agree with our opinions (which we will refer to now as FACTS, because 'opinion' often connotates that their is not complete truth in what we say).
Our counterpoints will include a rash of flames, not only to argue their semi-valid point, but to belittle our opponents as well!! We will call upon our meanest of slurs to throw back at them, resorting to making off-the-topic comments about their intelligence level... or their social lives... or even their parents, if that is what it is going to take!! We must win the argument at all costs!!!
I hope you take this post in good humor, that is what it is meant for. There is some truth in it, and I think we can all see it. Errr buddy... The prices are being driven up right now due mostly to the fact that one of the largest chip producing areas was devasted this week. It has little to do with greed.

I really care less if the idiot files for IPO, I find it quite amusing, and will find the morons who actually purchase this stock even more amusing. My only concern is, if (more like when) this stock crashes hard core, what will the media and big wall street traders think of the upcoming legit linux IPO's, such as VA?? In my mind I see right through what is happenning here. Some fool downloaded RH, maybe modified 24 lines of code, got an 8x burner; and has no choice now but to go public!!! Woohoo!! But will the public see through this scam?? Or will it leave a bad taste in their mouths? I can only imagine that it has to have some effect, hopefully very minor. Society is *extremely* skeptical about open source and the companies that live by it. After all, it is very new to the market. Ask someone 10 years ago about building a product, and letting everyone have it for free!! They would have laughed their asses off at you! Slashdotters know differently, and know the benefits of open source.. but does the public? specifically the $$ public ??? My point is that both people and the market are very skeptical of this new idea (open source) becuase they don't understand it.. They dont understand giving away a product instead of selling it. When the linux community is unknowingly and unwillingly represented by idiots like Dr. XXX, our whole reputation is tarnished, like it or not. my main point is, simply go to the porn companies who are paying this prick to attract the customers, show them what he did (spam mailing). Explain that spam, especially spam under false pretenses, is in the grey area of legality (and also pisses a lot of people off), and more than likely the spammer will receive no compensation for his work.
Its a small victory... Even though I would rather rip off his head and pee down his throat.

Star Wars is not a movie you can watch for the first time from a crappy, small mpeg that some encoded from sneaking a hand held video camera into the theatre. Granted, that mpeg may make its way onto my hard drive eventually, but not after I have paid to see it several times in the theatre. Its a special effects movie; everyone with half a brain cell knows it has to be seen in a theatre to experience to the whole thing. I have yet to hear from anyone, including my friends that have pirated more than bluebeard himself, 'oh geez, I'll skip the theatre.. I am just going to wait for the mpeg'. The point is, although the mpeg will proliferate like no other, people are *still* going to pay the money to see it in the theatre. So my advice to Mr. Lucas is not to become so enthrawled at finding and torturing these horrible, horrible pirates, but devote the energy at designing and producing better films. The early reviews of PM should hint to him that this is necessary;).

I laugh my a#$ off every time I see a false item up for bid on ebay. Any company that welches out of any responsibilty for the items sold on their site like ebay deserves to have stuff like this done to them. I have saved a couple of the pages with these items just for fun. Anyone know if there is a site with a collection of these fake items?
