Yes, if the measurments can be confirmed for different (and hopefully bigger parts of the sky), the cyclic model of Turok and Steinhardt seems to be very unlikely now, as it has predicted a very small polarisation of the cosmic microwave background.
What puzzles me, is that neither the WMAP probe nor the Planck probe have found a polarisation and now the polarisation was found with a ground based telescope? The resolution of the WMAP probe was probably too low, but the planck probe has had a much higher resolution.

P.S.: An explanation and comparison of both, the big bang inflationary model and the cyclic model featuring Dr. Paul J. Steinhardt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...
I just tried to install FreeBSD-8.2 on my laptop, but I wasn't even able to boot the installation CD or DVD or USB stick image. All i get to see is a list of registers and finaly the line
BTX halted
Same with PC-BSD.
After searching the net for this, I found the advise to turn off AHCI in the BIOS, which isn't possible, because the bios setup of my laptop is pretty minimal. So now I'm stuck.
So if anyone wonders why more folks aren't using FreeBSD on the desktop, this is the reason. At least for me.
Even though Homeworld is from 1999 it is still fun to play (Homeworld 2 too). Until then i was addicted to space combat sims like XWing or Descent Freespace.
It seems that the problem is somehow related to the windowmanager. Firefox passes the value of the title string to the windowmanager on startup which tries to display it in the window title. This fails if the string is very long, depending on the window manager. If you use MWM then firfox starts with no problem, despite a delay because of the time needed to load the bloated history. Can anyone approve this?
I just started Celestia to visit them, but I can't find them. According to http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4164365. stm they are called KW Sagitarii V354 Cephei KY Cygni but they are not in the celestia catalog. But the catalog uses at least two different naming conventions for stars, so I'm (or the webpage, or celestia) probably using the wrong names.
Hmm.... The german CT-magazin (http://www.heise.de/ct) just performed a similar test but with different results. Linux beats NT in all but one category (NT server with multiple network devices is faster). Who's right?

The results are a lot more realistic.
You can even find some nifty animations there:

I thought only cats are good in writing mouse drivers?

And why don't they fill nuclear power plants with coffee instead of water?

I prefer Darjeeling. Does this make any difference? :-)
I hope so
