    I use the .local domain on my home network. Those IP addresses are definitely not 127.0.0.1. I have no interest in changing to .localhost and/or setting up certificates for my intranet websites.

    Most currency exchange websites that I dealt with as an IT technician were loaded with malware.

    That's funny. I counted 50+ affiliate tags being used by ACs over the last few months. Most never got called out because they're ACs. Sounds like a double standard to me.

    Most people regard a business built around marketing to be a scam. Most people also believe that they are fully in control of their lives. That is until they see an advertisement for an Apple iPhone and rush out to get one to stay ahead of the Jones.

    I love the cover image for "The Giggling Mongoose: Scarlet Hearts" -- the cover image reads, "The Giggling Mongoose: Scartlet Hearts" - he can't even fucking spell the titles of his books properly... do you really expect him to put any effort into the actual CONTENT?

    If only Photoshop had a spellchecker! Thanks for pointing that out. I'll have it fix tonight. The downside of being an indie author is that you're one-person publishing house and mistakes happen all the time.

    IIRC, Microsoft Defender runs as an automatic task at 3:00AM. Since that's default setting, I haven't changed it.

    Microsoft Defender on my PCs kick off at 3:00AM in the morning. If you're having trouble sleeping that late at night, I suggest taking Nyquil.

    I suggest you never ride BART between San Francisco and Oakland, as the Transbay Tube is 135 feet below sea level under the bay. Unlike the Bay Bridge above it, the Transbay Tube survived the 1989 earthquake without incident.

    This isn't an unrealistic question. I remember reading in my history class that some people thought that traveling on a steam locomotive that went faster than 35MPH was unsafe. A fast horse, in comparison, could travel 30MPH. All kinds of weird things could happen to the human body if it traveled faster than a horse. Those fears weren't put aside until it was proven that it was safe ride at faster speeds.

    The only applications that I use is Microsoft Defender and Malware Bytes. All the third-party applications for keeping WinXP running weren't needed in Vista/7/8/10.

    How are they pasting your URL all over Slashdot?

    Variations of this post has my URL in it. Usually in response to my comments. However, there are side discussions I'm not involved with that also get this post.

    While I agree you contribute next to nothing to Slashdot, posting 12 times a day is hardly doing "nothing".

    As creimer, I posted 25 to 50 times per day. I posted 8,000 comments in ten years, and 4,000 comments this year. If only my wanker trolls had left me alone.

  24. Either you believe in the free market, and housing in the Bay Area is correctly priced based on supply and demand.

    The "free market" in most metropolitan areas are skewed towards luxury housing because it has the highest profit margins for developers. They have very little interest in building affordable or entry-level housing. While most politicians lament about the lack of affordable housing, they won't say no to the tax revenues that come from residents who can afford luxury housing.

    Nope. Just putting out a leg for my wanker trolls to hump. They in turn promote my author website by pasting my URL all over Slashdot. Web traffic has doubled and Amazon affiliate sales stay the same despite the fact that I'm doing next to nothing on Slashdot.
