  1. YOu *ARE * going to pay for this... on Will The DOJ Split Microsoft In Three? · · Score: 1

Ye-Haw... all you Techno-pundits who want to split MS in pieces must have money to burn... Yes, MS is world wide, yes they can still co-operate if they wanted to ... but the chance are, they don't care what the actual remedy is... they will still do a lot of business... however, as a taxpayer , guess who is going to foot the bill for this little re-organization ? Soo... hope your next job pays well... your taxes are going to launch MS into the next phase..... Believe it....and don't start crying when you just start to approximate how much it costs to re-organize that company.

Barbarians comment is more than correct. It is a proactive vision of the level of action that must be taken to prevent linux's security reputation from trashed like MS's. Just because you like Linux...dosen't mean your little brother does. "once again they came a tapping, this time more insistent rapping..looking for that open door."

No, that question is right on target. As somebody who actually went thru the " good old days " of
non-interoperability, i quite agree. So the question really is ..Why?

One answer may come from the shift in home entertainment/game console systems. Amiga needs to compete from the ground up to be competive up with todays PC..and for what gain? a (small) piece of the sub $1000. market ? Why waste 5 million on a
(old) name brand... No way Jose...

Suppose however, that you were after a much bigger market..one dominated by only three or four players..like Sony, Sega and Nintendo. Now dumping 5 million into brand recoginition is a drop in the bucket compared to the potential payoff.
The Amiga home system... a nice American name..good technological references..viola ! instant player in a big field. Before you hurt yourself laughing...think of the Dreamcast in sheeps clothing. After all..the X-Box stills needs a home.

A lot of nice explainations of how it does what it does..but not of Why it does what it does. All computers run software to get to an end point. If this thing runs ( almost ) all software, it's to get to an end point. The effect of the machine...Windows is just another application. So is Linux , or BEos, etc. One resource drive with a second configuation drive lets you drop in any OS disk and have an variable configuation of the type of machine it was written for.

  7. Re:Maybe this COULD work on Yet Another Crack-This-Box Challenge · · Score: 1

Goods Points..but perhaps it is already working. Suppose you were charged with fielding a machine in a national ( international ? ) contest such as this?...the biggest problem so far seems to be keeping ANY machine up and running under an onslaught of attention..regardless of the stated purpose or OS. So what's a hot administrator to do to prove his worth? Maybe he bets another guy he can keep his box going longer than any body else can. The Web itself won't be robust until MOST servers can withstand this type of scrunity and traffic. BTW..If you are paranoid about masking your identity on a box you can't get busted for..get another trade.

  8. Re:Some has the guts to say how it is on Suck on Linux Evolution · · Score: 1

Relax, most of you...it realy isn't your fault. I have watched this ( Linux development ) with nostalgia for some time now. A lot of what attracts the most debate about OS development is a replay of the same forces that first created, developed , promoted and sold Rock n' Roll. Instead of Red Hat..think Chess Records. The big question is ..who's the next Capitol Records? or MCA or Sony..Relax, you can never go home again.
