I agree. The metric system is great being base 10 and all but sometimes I wish we had evolved with 12 fingers just for this reason.
We evolved with 12 finger segments per hand. It's easy enough to count in base twelve on your fingers by placing your thumb on the first segment (index or pinky, whatever direction you want to go) and moving to the next segment to increment. When you run out of segments on one finger, go on to the next. If you're talented enough to use both hands, you can get all the way to twenty four without even taking off your shoes!
They look pretty weak at only 3 watts. Their frequency range doesn't cover the whole range of a cd either, "300Hz-20KHz". It's probably better than the speakers that come with most computers, but I don't think I'll trade in my stereo yet.
I recently asked mustek for some specs on one of their parallel scanners so I could write a driver for mine. They told me they wouldn't give info to anyone.

Don't forget visual. If it has anything at all to do with programming, it's visual.

Lyx should definately be ported to gtk. The widget set it uses now is horribly ugly and opperates in a weird way.
A gnomed version would be great addition to the modern *NIX desktop. The power of LaTeX in a smoothly integrated, eyecandied enviorment.
It sure would be a cool project if anybody's looking for something to do with spare, or not so spare, time.
