Where exactly do people get this antiquated concept of grammar from? Prescriptive grammar went out in the 18th century. Some of the most prominent self-appointed "experts" being:
John Wallace, Grammatica Linguae Anglicanae, 1653
Dean Swift, Proposal for correcting, improving, and ascertaining the English Tongue, 1712
Bishop Lowth, Short Introduction to English Grammar, 1762
Perhaps if you are a linguist, you can make a descriptive argument about what is "common place grammar" but a linguist is only concerned with deviations from the norm when it results in a failure to communicate (and leads to the creation of a new dialect, which is not necessarily a bad thing).
As for your comments on the story, I tend to think that perhaps you know as much about the situation IBM and its employees are in as you do about grammar.
I know you and you know me. It was quite a while ago that I tried to compile libAtlas-C++ so I'm sure this is no reflection on you, but libAtlas is not a "complex protocol", it's a simple protocol, that's the point, it is only complex because of the gross misuse of templates and "design patterns". Coding for coding sake is moreso masturbation than gaming for gaming sake. The idea is to code something, release it, and add new features to it that are driven by actual people playing it. At least that way the project is not the exclusive domain of programmers. But hey, if the worldforge crew wants to stay up in the ivory tower, go right ahead, but put on the web page "This game is not playable and will never be playable because we're more interested in having fun progamming."
the GPT is a step to get rid of the one more legacy element in the PC.
Ahh.. Until you actually stop supporting it, an element is not currently legacy. This spec actually wants to make the MBR a legacy element of the PC. This is not necessarily a bad thing but get it right.
You can bet that the meeting entailed a lot of spite directed at Felton. Stuff like "he shouldn't be allowed to break our encryption!" or "he should of been silenced!". Why is it that people have so much trouble understanding the cryptographic process? If a good guy can crack it then a bad guy can crack it (although exactly what intentions make 'good' and 'bad' is always open to debate, especially in this case), and the more people who know about it the better.
ok, no it doesn't, but it just aint my ball of wax. I could role play when it was just me a terminal and mud, but I spend 99% of my time in UO just clicking on my knife and a piece of wood to make arrows. Yawn. RTS > RPG in my not so humble opinion, but maybe Worldforge will eventually release something that is playable and prove me wrong.
Thermal imaging, microwave imaging, I believe there was even a recent story on slashdot about ultra wide band imaging. Counterstrike is a hella cool mod mind you.
Even in real life soldiers and counterterrorists have equipment that can see through walls and do you think the predator didn't have an aimbot? Make it part of the game. If everyone is doing it, is it still cheating?
His argument is that airplanes weren't inheriently dangerous but p2p is, your argument is that airplanes were inheriently dangerous to the railroad and that's why p2p is considered inheriently dangerous to the RIAA. So basically you rendered his argument mute. ie. not insightful. Obviously you agree with the rest of his post, because they're facts. Stating facts does not make one insightful, informative maybe, but we all know the facts in this case (and if you dont then you probably should get them somewhere a little more reliable than a slashdot post), so not informative either.
It's specifically the constution that you're trying to protect. A government of the people for the people and by the people. We're not yet at a point where that is blatantly being stomped upon. The the diluting of the trial by jury system that is happening in this country is actually coming close to it.
If all these games were open source parents could hack them so they fit the exact needs of their children! When you buy a closed source video game you have no idea what you are buying! Because you cant examine the source you really have no way of deciding if the game has the gruesome end sequence. It's very common for closed source video games to have "Secret Sections" that only particularly addicted players can find! If all games were open source parents could make better decisions about whether these games are safe for kids. And the games would be more stable too! After all, it's the game crashing when you just got past a hard part and forgot to save that often triggers naturally violent kids to go on a rampage!
dont feed the trolls.
err.. you mean other than the fact that they said they were?

Hands up anyone working on open source who could of done with $18k. Thanks IBM. You're spendin' that billion well.

That's like analog wireless right?
Dear You Pair Of Ignorant Fucks,
Ever heard of licensing a patent, now shut the fuck up.

I remember when people used to report products as well as vapourware.
Programming for the sake of programming gets old fast.
With all of Bush's rhetoric about an energy crisis, why doesn't NASA latch onto this idea to secure more funding?
I don't know, cause it's fantasia bullshit?
this is the problem. You look at my post and see babble, so does the SDMI.
I have more karma than I know what to do with, as if I want more. Suck my big fat hairy cock.
what this what the movie Project X was about? I havn't seen it since I was a kid and dont remember the exact details of the "shocking secret".

or play games that actually require things from the player that a computer cant (yet) do, like, say, intelligence.
